Am I being unreasonable?

It seems you can't have it both ways in retail. If he wants to be promoted, he needs to put the extra time in. If he wants to regard the job as fixed hours and no extra then he will be stuck at the same level for decades.
Not knocking anyone who decides that they will work their paid hours only and have a decent work/ family balance, but you earn your money and take your choice.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Whilst your husband is only paid 40 hours he may not be getting the work done
If the company feel he should be in that time he'll need to do it in his own time or risk being dismissed
Imo you are being unreasonable, managers are paid a premium, he isnt being paid £6 to work a checkout now and if he wants the extra cash he needs to do the extra work0 -
Extra cash being 1.50 pounds extra than the 6 pounds you gave as an example.Made it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:0

WHAT!!!! The company should ask why the job is not being done in this time and help the situation NOT make out he is at risk of dismissal. Worked in this environment for nine years and it had no benefit when I got a family life. "What do you mena you want to go home to your new wife" was one question I got. I got out of there sharpish.0 -
That remark was a great help!!
Can you not see the OP was upset
OPS REPLY:
That's another story!! Aparently, he has said to one of the girls working there that if he wasn't with me he'd be with her!!!
I think I will have to get him out of there!!!!

OP
who makes the decision taht your OH does these extra hours on his day off, is it his bosses or does he do it off his own back,
Good question. MR LMDLOD is contracted to work from 7.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday but often works over these hours as he says by staying over, it helps him come the next morning. He doesn't get any extra pay or reward for this but this is his decision (as I keep reminding him!)
On the issue of the OP's OH saying if he wasn't with her he'd be with some other girl at work, well, I'd certainly have to deal with this IMHO.Its nice to be important but more important to be nice!0 -

They'd have to be paying me a lot more than 7.50 an hour to work for free on my days off!
I hope you're no one's boss!0 -

Exactly!!! This is my point....on his days off he should be with me and our children, not working for free!!! There is loads of stuff he could be doing here for free!!!Made it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:0 -
C_Ronaldo, I'm not too sure. He says it's because he wants too, but last week a meeting was called, and it was suggested that some members aren't more committed as much as others are. He know thinks this ws directed at him, although in all the 4 years he's worked there, he's never had a day off sick and always goes in on his day off, answers alarm calls at stupid o'clock in the morning etc etc. It sometimes feels like he's married to the job!!Made it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:0
