  • Why don't you have a gas safe check carried out by a approved contractor- make sure you ensure the company is registered

Assuming it passes they will find it hard to have you chucked out without a court order.

    baldly going on...
  • Accommodation provided by his employer. It's like barracks/student halls. single rooms no resident partners allowed.

That's like no riggie I have ever known - how unusual!

Anyway, bottom line you either put up with them coming in for few days, or you go and stay somewhere else for a bit.

If you have no mates with a couch spare, and can't afford a B&B, I guess you are putting up with it. Hopefully it'll mostly be when you are at work.

    Good luck!

Thank you. I may just do this. They are arguing on the grounds the part that needs replaced is hard to get which means it is still available. If I get an independent check and they agree it is safe enough upon fixing Ill use that to persuade them to hold off the upgrade until I've moved out.

You've been offered temporary accommodation while the work is carried out. Not everyone living in temporary accommodation is a alcoholic or drug addict. Most are just ordinary people waiting for a council or HA property to become available.

I imagine that it's something along those lines that my previous landlord did in the event - though I didn't have to "put my case" for it. They were just co-operative and helpful anyway.

I lived in social housing and had literally finished tiling the kitchen, decorating etc two weeks before the council decided to put a new kitchen in. Strangely enough, I was delighted to get a new kitchen, never occurred to me to moan about the money/time I'd wasted putting tiling up and decorating. I'd only been in there a year, had wallpapered (using expensive wallpaper in the lounge).., they decided to redo the electrical wiring. All wasted. I was just glad to have non flickering wiring.

Because of the rewiring I had to take up all the laminate flooring, and pack up everything I owned (not store it, I just moved it around). It wasn't fun as I was overstretched as it was as had two special needs kids, putting the flooring for a three bed house down again wasn't fun as I have a few physical problems (caused a LOT of pain).

But I was just delighted the place was being done. I was given some compensation for the re-decorating but it in no way covered the cost of redoing it all.

A couple will be regarded as needing the same space as you already have by the council. You will be a long while waiting for a move on that basis. If you care for someone, that might be a more successful route of getting a move, but the new place won't necessarily be any bigger (it might be but no guarantee). Either way you are likely to be waiting a while, so I'd regard the redecorating etc as part of the cost of living in social housing that's yours as long as you want it (rather than private rental where often you can't even decorate it as you want, magnolia paint only lol).

You are responding quite sharply to people who are replying on here. That's not really going to encourage helpful replies! You don't really seem to 'get' how lucky you are to be in social housing rather than an overpriced grimy room somewhere that you could be asked to move out of at any time.

Oh and I was expected to live in the house, with no kitchen for three weeks (they did make sure the sink was connected to water) and no hot water. No temporary accommodation was provided. It was just a challenge that had to be dealt with. Was worth it.

I'd sell my body for a new boiler instead of having parts made, time without hot water as I am presently experiencing over and over again because the council won't replace the boiler ha ha!

Maybe people who have replied are hinting that a change of attitude might be useful. The one you have seems to be a bit on the negative side and must influence how you view life generally.

But if living in these circumstances irritates you so much, perhaps you would be happier in a private rental. Then someone who appreciates it could get your place???????????
