Windows 10 update (Sept '16) how long did it take you?

Options
Wish I'd not opted to update, I started at 11pm and its coming up to 1am, not done yet!

So far have had a few restarts (the update warns this will happen). I last saw the screen turn itself off to restart at around 11:45 and could see it was 71% done at that point.

Well it turned itself off, restarted and right now I'm looking at a black screen with the Windows timer dial rotating. I'm fed up with this! I've been waiting for the final black screen to switch back for an hour now.

Questions:
If you attempted the upgrade, how long did it take you?

Will it harm my PC to turn it off manually and turn back on myself? It's not frozen, but it's also not moving to the next screen.

Is there anything I can do to find out how much longer this could take if I don't do anything?

After reading others' experiences on here, I just left mine updating overnight, and it was finished in the morning.

Mine took about 5-10 mins or so to install.

Not sure if its because of the drive that people have in. On an SSD it should be a lot quicker than that.

Installed in about 10 minutes on my machine.
My neighbour had the same trouble as the OP, I just turned it off, left it for 10 minutes and turned it on again.....All OK...

  • Time taken varied a lot across the machines I've installed it on, from 15 minutes to a couple of hours in one case, which was the most powerful / fastest machine (dual xeon, 96GB RAM, big SSD etc).

It also depends on how much free disk space, RAM, CPU, internet speed, other installed programs and most importantly the British Weather.

About half a day as i first downloaded and installed to try . Then found drivers then did a clean format and install .
100% happy and no problems at all .
  • Was ticked off that it downloaded and installed without approval however as it corrected some non working apps its ok. Took about 2 hours but not 100% sure when it started as someone else was using it.
