I had an accident at the beggining of September the first week of September. Next day suprise suprise Drive assist ontacted me to say they could supply me with a replacement vehicle whilst mine was inspected for repair. Having explained i was parcially disabled i would nee a large vehicle they agreed to supply a freelander. I was warned at this point that i would have to pay for the first 250.00 damage to this vehicle. 6 Days later and numerous phone calls later a 0i9 register freelander was delivered to my address. The delivery driver informed me that i was responsible for the 500.00 of damage to this vehicle. I politely told him that it was 250.00 to whichj he replied he knew his job and it was 500.00. I told him to take the vehcile away. After 2 weeks i was told my vehicle was write off. I was made i think a reasonable offer for my vehicle and accepted. 3 weeks later after receiving no communicaton what so ever I contacted drive assist and was told that they had forgot to send a report to the 3rd party insurers. This was done that day. two weeks ago iwas told that drive assist were awaiting my cheque from the 3rd party insurers. Last Weds i was told that my cheque was with drive assists accounts department and would be with me within a Week. Today i thought i would give them a little remainder, i was told my cheque was with daccounts department and would be released to me in the next 10 days. Now i have lost count at the amount of lies i have been fed by this company. Today i rang the AA, it was these i took the original policy out with and they used a third party to insure my vehicle. I got a very nice lady on the phone from the AA. Haveing told them I am a multi policy holder of both AA insrence and recovery services, that if they did not assist in speeding up this process i would pull all my services from them. she did not care one jolt. No doubt if you are useing these forums you are involved with drive assist you are going to have problems. I calculate that from the time of the accident to actually the cheque being cleared in my account will be at lease 12 weeks, this does not take into count the impending postal strikes.

My vehicle was rear ended and i had no trouble getting the lady to admit blame. I saw her last week and her car was repaired.

Long story but worth a read, please please please stay away from drive assist and if you read more posts on these forums you will see how lucky iwas to refuse the hire vehicle because the car hirer folk make a packet fro accidentle damage. If you refuse to take a hire vehcle drive assist will push you take one.

Do you have comprehensive or tpf&t cover?
  • Please see my response on the MSE thread "Drive Asssist-50/50 claim".

Drive assist is optional. You can ask your insurer to keep it in house. They just automatically pass some cases over. You don't have to fobbed off to this questionable organisation and have more stress. Someone crashing into you car is enough.
  • Hi All
Someone drove into the back of my wife's car and is fully responsible. Directline then passed me onto Drive assist for a rental car while her car was in for repairs. They are delivering it on Tuesday. I have had this rental car for 2 weeks for £47 a day which will work out about £1000 which I do not have. I have by accident came across loads of threads about this company. My concern is that if the 3rd party refuses to pay the car credit agreement, what are my rights and what should I do if they want to get the outstanding balance with me. I have fully comp with directline as well as Legal protection. Can I use my Directline excess for this?

The sinple answer is to read the document they ask you to sign along with the credit agreement. This will advise you of in what circumsttances (If any) that you could be liable.

  • Hi,

Someone bump into my car and took full liability. I got drive assist car, refer by my insurance Directline. but after reading this thread not feeling confident about drive assist.

Other insurance party sent me letter yesterday that they can arrange me replacement car free of cost till my claim sort code and did mentioned that they accepting full liability. I took replacement car with them and cancel drive assist yesterday. Drive assist said will contact me today, but no call. Called them earlier and adviced me that will collect it on 29/12 now.

I want to know that is it okay to speak to other party insurance directly??

secondly is it a good to get replacement car from other party insurance??

    Keep me posted.

Tell them you want the car gone tomorrow - when I asked them to take their car away they said they wouldnt be able to take it for a afew days, when I insisted they came the following day. And if they do come say tomorrow they will keep you waiting and waiting... They charge the 3rd party insurers per day even if you have asked for it to be removed!! They are also open until very late so do not wait, call them NOW and get rid of it!!
