Cost of a new bathroom

Hi guys,

I am no DIY expert so most aspects will need to be done by a professional. I am looking to refurbish my bathroom and as nothing is really wrong with it, I wanted to know whether it would be realistic to do everything for no more than £2,500 including labor.

We have a small bathroom, no more than 3 meters each wall. Is there a way I can get a rough estimate for the cost of tiling? (how much I would need to buy).

Also, does my budget sound realistic?

Update

Do you guys think it's worth getting a designer? Also, we are look to combine the bath and the shower. Currently they are separate. Are there any cons you can think of about doing this? Also, would it be a massive issue that we may be moving the bath to a new position?

It really depends on what you do, and what is there now, but I would put itnat the very low end of the scale and not expect much in thebway of wow factor. Certainly not a fully tiled room.

It may appear simple but refits are about than swapping things over and take time.

We did a basic bathroom with contractors suite, upgraded taps, full height tiling (200mm x 300mm white with an end of line mosaic border) around the bath area, vinyl flooring for £2700 a while back. So it can certainly be done, but don't expect the wow factor!!

I was wondering, have you had 'the wedding' yet OP?

Does your current bathroom not wipe your !!!!! for you?

I'm eagerly awaiting the 'I'm getting divorced' threads.

If you're willing to DIY the tiling (which isn't difficult), and there's nothing wrong with your existing toilet/sink/bath/shower, then you could do it for very little indeed.

If done professionally, then your figure is do-able.

3x3m isn't a small bathroom. If "refurbish" means get a new bathroom, then I don't think 2.7k will cut it. We had a new 2x2m bathroom done for 2.7k about 5 years ago and that was stuff we bought ourselves fitted by two polish fitters at £900 labour for a full week's job.
  • If you picked up bargains on your suite and tiling / materials and got everything for £1000 I'd say £1500 labour would just about cut it up north.

Yet you have another thread where you were looking for fixes for your boiler.

Do you need advice on every aspect of your life?
  • £2.5k sounds like you'll be cutting things fine. IMO £4k is a more realistic budget. Within reason, the size of your bathroom doesn't have a huge impact on price (unless we're talking about a massive bathroom with lots of expensive tiles) as generally they require the same work - plumbing, fitting a bath/shower/toiilet/sink etc. We spent about £4k on our downstairs shower room which is only 2.5m x 1.2m but that was completely gutted, pipework modifications, new shower enclosure, shower, toilet, basin, towel radiator, re-tiled, redecorated etc.

What an imbecilic thing to say!
