One way Car rental Fees in California

Hi
When did car rentals start charging one way fees for drop offs in California?>?
In the past I've done several Ow's (LAX-SFO etc) and it was easy to find a rate that did not include a drop off fee.
Now they all seem to charge?
Have those days gone ?
Just found out it's because I'm booking in August (never usually travel then).

I haven't found one that charges.
State your dates and what you've been quoted, in so that we can compare.0 -
Same. 20+ hires across the West. Never charged once.0

August 2017
Pickup around 20th ish in SFO drop off in LAX about 10 days later.
(or maybe the reverse...)
Alamo or even Thrifty coming in at $250 OW fee.
Looked at Netflights and Rentalcars initially.0 -

Total quote?
Either way, don't see the issue. Rentalcars shows that some of the car rental companies charge a one way fee.
Just don't use the ones that charge a one way fee. It might be a mistake, but cover yourself by choosing an option that doesn't charge.0 -

I rang rental cars to check as their site was ambiguous as you have found out.
All cars had the OW fee
Netflights web-site shows the OW fee charged.
Rang them to ask if policy had changed and it was him that said it was because it was August holidays.
Another rip off Britain
I'd be happy to be proved wrong :cool:0 -

Now I see why you call yourself Blindman. How can it be "rip off Britain" when it's for USA car rental?
Either way, I see no one way fee for the rental I've shown.
Instead of calling a broker, call the company direct. Hertz, in my illustration.
I never deal via brokers.
No one way fee:0 -

No one way fee:
Its the UK brokers that apply the fee. :cool:I see no one way fee for the rental I've shown.
Where was that shown??
However I have found that if I rent LAX to SFO there is no fee (with Alamo for eg)
If I rent SFO to LAX same dates same car-there is a fee (Netflights)
21/8/17 7 day rental 7 seater Alamo £186.40
What would be your Hertz quote??0 -

You are just making it up as you go along.What it actually states on Netflights;
Pay at pickup
One-way drop off charge USD 300.00
So clearly nothing to do with the broker.
Just book direct, use Quidco and stop confusing yourself. There is no fee either way.0 -

Still waiting for you to show me the Hertz example....
Did you try the Netflights drop off fee example I gave???
No fee LAX-SFO0 -
Is NetFlights a broker? How many times do you need to be told to forget about them?
If you are happy with Alamo, stick with them. You can search with Hertz/AVIS for yourself, as you don't seem to know if you are going from SFO to LAX over ten days or LAX to SFO over seven days.
What I can tell you is that by booking direct, if there are no one way fees indicated, there are no one way fees.
So why are you still going on about NetFlights?
I am waiting for your expert advice that booking direct with Hertz is cheaper and has no-one way fee.
As I obviously do not know what I'm doing. If you would kindly give me your expert quote for Hertz for
LAX-SFO
21/8/17 for 7 days
7 seater
As i'd hate to get it wrong myself.
And if it is cheaper I will forget about brokers.
Though they have been cheaper for the last 20 years I've found.0
