My eldest daughter is like that SA. We moved to France when she was five and half and spent seven years there. You can’t tell she’s English when she speaks french. Then she did Spanish gcse and one of the teachers couldn’t understand why she sounded french when she spoke Spanish until she told him that she used to live in France. I have a strong mayenne accent when I speak french and my daughter probably has as well.4

I'm on Duolingo I'm learning Spanish, why because it's free and to keep the brain active. I've just started to read your diary very inspirational.

I quite fancy doing the Spanish duo lingo. The children at school learn Spanish and I dip in and out of lessons but there’s no continuity so I miss bits and then have no idea what’s going on. I’m the worlds worst at starting and not continuing though...so I’m in 2 minds about it.January spends - £587.584

Worth a try Milann I do the free option and you can go at your own pace. I’ve actually surprised myself just how much I’ve learned.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3

Sorry you felt a bit meh at the weekend. Maybe it's the social isolation because zoom is not as good. I'm really enjoying being at work and having lots of people to talk to again.
I'm glad your masks have arrived, although it's a nusiance if your glasses steam up. I can't read while travelling anyway as it makes me feel travel sick.
I'm glad your bamboo sheets are comfy. I have some bamboo socks and I love them.

@doingitanyway– I decided against the veg box in the end as I came to the conclusion I'd prefer to select my own fruit and veg to coincide with what I want to use for my meal planning etc. I always buy bananas, apples and satsumas so if I didn't get these in the box I would have to go out and buy them anyway. But now things have quietened down food-buying wise, I'm going back to purchasing my fruit/veg from the greengrocer, as I did mostly pre-Covid, rather than include it in my supermarket shop.
@Debsnewbudget – I tried my glasses on top of the mask and it works! However, looking in the mirror, I was reminded of 'Halloween' when Michael Myers had the glasses on over the sheet on his head!🤣
@jaxsmar – thank you for your kind words – that's really nice of you 😀
@Sun_Addict, @Mumoffourkids, @milann – I think the Duolingo app is excellent and I'm actually keeping up with doing it each day – quelle surprise! It's interesting how SA and MO4K have different accents when speaking French and Spanish. I've a feeling that I'm going to speak French with an Essex accent………..🤭
@HaiyHandofDartmoor – I can only read whilst travelling if I'm on a train or plane - I feel sick if I try to read in a car. The bamboo sheets are lovely – I'll research the bamboo socks – they could make good Xmas presents! I might buy the bedding for DD and OH for their Xmas pressie – I think they would both like the feel of it and it could help with DD's allergies.
The new boiler has been fitted. Just as well, when looking inside the old one and how yucky it was, it was about time it went to the Great Boiler Heaven in the Sky!
My season ticket refund arrived as well so I have today transferred it over to my workplace pension. A no-brainer as I immediately received another £400 tax relief on top.
Apart from a £3.99 Kindle book and lotto ticket, nothing else spent except for some soy milk, fizzy water and wholewheat noodles.
I might have a nail session next month in the offing! Hooray!😀
And ... RIP Dame Vera Lynn 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Yes RIP Dame Vera. 103 is a grand old age. You’ve inspired me to look into my pension.....I really need to investigate mine.....it’s one of those things I keep meaning to do
Happy new boiler and hopefully not long until your nails are painted again 👍January spends - £587.584 -

Glad you’re feeling better SSG and more perky now. Think all of us have good and less good times throughout this time, and each day I am not entirely certain which camp I will fall into.. Think shop queues have been insane. Only place I have queued at during this lockdown is the fish and chip shop
(only 2 people allowed in at once!)
Weather mixed here but fingers crossed for a nice long sunny week next week. Quite fancy that Mediterranean sunshine back again!4 -
Thanks guys.
@milann –Do you have a workplace pension that you contribute to? The tax relief and employer contribution all help to bump up the value.
@HairyHandofDartmoor - I had a look at the BAM website – the socks look good!
@brizzlegirl – I too have no desire at all to queue for non-essentials, especially clothes! I do need a new pair of trainers though, but I'm going to have a look tomorrow and see if our little local sports shoe shop has re-opened. I bought my last pair of walking trainers here and would like to continue supporting the shop as it's a local business and they guy who runs it is so helpful.
I received an email from our local theatre to confirm that the Aussie Floyd concert DD and I were attending in November has been rescheduled to next November. I emailed her to let her know and she replied to say that I've reminded her to check on our forthcoming Deep Purple concert. I didn't even know we were going as I remember us discussing it vaguely months ago but didn't realise she had booked them – or else I'm definitely suffering from dementia!
Apart from that a busy work day today and not long finished. No spends.
One pot tofu noodle curry tonight and catch up on diaries. Will also fit in Duolingo and I must get going again on the MSE Academy as people have been posting that the retirement section is interesting.
