Very exciting. Am very envious...my kitchen could do with a real spruce up, but other priorities at the moment....my holidays need to be paid for ;)

Hope you have a run without illness for a bit too...

Good to hear you are better . The kitchen will be so worth it in the end . The colour combination sounds great.

When are you off to New York with DD ?

Thanks brizzle. I think the old kitchen was telling me it had come to the end of the road. The night before the work started the handles came off two of the doors!:rotfl:

I'm now more relaxed about it SA. Although it's going to take longer than I envisaged (and that is due to me being over optimistic), the fact that I can use the washing machine, oven and fridge has softened the inconvenience somewhat!

I'm off to New York in just under two weeks Cumbria. It seems to have arrived so fast. Can't wait! Love NY this time of the year. We've booked our restaurants for the evenings. Am going to see about booking tickets for the 9/11 museum. We did go there last time we went to NY but had to rush it a bit so I'd like to go back and take my time.

    Thanks inod.

Was going through YNAB earlier. I've got to pull my horns in a bit moneywise. The kitchen refit cost has gone over a little so I've that to pay. I've also got to get my dollars for NY. Shouldn't be too bad as DD said she will be paying for meals out there as I paid hotel and flights. I won't be going mad on shopping while I'm out there as the exchange rate isn't as good as it has been in times past.

I also went to the Xmas Show that I go to every year with my pals. I wasn't TOO bad on the spends.:D Pressie wise just bought Xmas socks for DD and her OH and some nice flavoured oils for them. I bought some cheeses for me and chocs for Xmas and a lovely Advent calendar. Also some nice dangly pendant necklaces from the costume jewellery stand that I really like and who don't sell retail. Their jewellery is lovely and very reasonable. I generally head for the necklaces while my friend loves their sparkly cocktail rings. And of course we all had to have some champagne.......:D

My train tickets have been booked to DD's next month and air tickets to Inverness for New Year.

I've also renewed my contents insurance. I compared the prices online but my renewal price was still the cheapest so I went with them but managed to get a discount from them so it worked out cheaper than last year. :D

However - my annual trip travel insurance has shot up owing to the health part of it. It cost me £235 this year! The pot I had been saving for this didn't cover it but luckily I had the extra £72 in the "extras" pot I keep just in case the different insurances and flat management fees take a turn for the worst! Came in handy this time!

If you have some time for shopping in NYC then take the bus from the central station to Woodbury Common. It is a designer outlet and the shops are amazing. Great discounts and well worth an hour on the bus!
Enjoy, it sounds like a wonderful Mum and Daughter time.

Enjoy NY. I haven't been myself but my mum went for new year and loved it - her mum was a native New Yorker (my grandma).

  • if you're going to woodbury common, there are slightly cheaper bus trips from the street parallel to port authority. a google search will sort it
