I'm sure David Wilson are no better and worse than all the other big homebuilders. See p3 for my opinion on Barratts.

It just depends on who the foreman is. A good site foreman/manager can employ good artisans who take pride in their work and spot the ones who aren't. A typical one will employ the kind of people you wouldn't let cut your grass or flip a burger. I've seen the way they lay breeze blocks - "sloppy" doesn't even cut it.

There's no way to know who you're going to get, and that's why I wouldn't go through that lottery again. I do think the very small local building firms have a better chance....but if I wanted a new house again I would choose the builders and other professionals myself.
  • I can only personally comment on how awful David Wilson are from my first hand experience and from speaking to my neighbors who have had an equally appalling experience with David Wilson. From the absolute nightmare we have had I certainly wouldn’t look to buy a new property again. I would also say that whilst you can lay a lot of the blame at the door of the site management, I would personally say at least 75% of the blame lays with Barrett’s/David Wilson management as they employ the site management, supposedly sign the property off at certain stages (although I know for a fact our house wasn’t signed off and the Divional Director overrode that decision without seeing the house and declared it ‘finished’!!!). It’s also off-site personnel you deal with after you move in and whilst everyone I deal with is pleasant we are still 3 months down the line and experiencing a high level of stress.
