Hi, does anyone know where I can buy a legal copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit with a full licence for home use, preferably boxed etc?
My husband purchased his old company laptop when he was made redundant, only to find that the OS product key was for multiple licences and no longer valid after a month.
We purchased a copy from a so called bone fide online company only for the product key to expire after 28 days and then we couldn't authenticate it again. Thankfully, we managed to get a refund. Several other companies online are advertising that they have a licence to sell MS software and that their software is legal, but we are a bit nervous of going down that route again.
We can't upgrade to Windows 10 because the laptop isn't compatible, and we don't want to go down the Windows 8 route. We can't afford a new laptop at the moment, so that's not an option.
Any advice would be really appreciated.

Go to here or ebay and purchase via paypal if it is wrong then claim it as a dispute

Thanks, Stevie. I'm nervous of doing down the Amazon/ebay route for fear of installing more unlicensed software. I could dispute payment if I ran into problems, but don't really want the hassle.0

Sorry, Tommy39, I don't understand your response. Do you mean Google search? I've done that and found several companies offering the software, but several of them don't appear to be authorised to sell the software and/or are offering ex developer licence keys etc.0

Hi FunTime, I only realised that the product key we'd purchased wasn't valid when the laptop screen went black and the message 'Windows 7. Build 7601. This copy of Windows is not genuine' in the bottom right hand corner.
Thinking there must be a mistake, I went through the MS automated telephone authentication system and was advised that the software may be illegal.
I got in touch with the company we'd purchased it from and they advised they were having problems with their software keys and refunded the money.
Is your suggestion still applicable re posting when I'm next to the laptop?0 -

I've sent you a PM with instructions for when you are next to the machine. You can send me the result via PM.
No need to deal with people selling keys that they are not entitled to sell. Likely you don't need to buy anything at all. But we need to check to be sure.0 -
Thanks, FunTime. I've got back to you.0
