Virginmedia retentions thread

I used to use MSE to gauge how much Virginmedia were trying to rip me off by, but I cant seem to find the thread any more. I usually pay line rental upfront and have the phone line with free weekend calls as it's cheaper but my bill has gone from about £19 all in to £19.99 plus line rental which is insane, I spoke to an advisor and was told no discounts available so I'm going to jump ship if I cant get a fair deal. I have not upgraded to 70mb on purpose as they use that to hike the price up, I was happy when it used to be 20mb.

So I was wondering how much people were paying for 50mb broadband including line rental?

Thanks in advance

    Your prices sound about normal.

Thanks for your reply but they have now sent an email and my bill will go up another £3.49 on top of that.

£42.48 just for broadband and a phone line I don't need. Time to jump ship :)
  • I have just had the e-mail saying mine is going from £19.99 to £23.48 (up by £3.99).

It started at £17.50 in Jan 2014 so that's just under a 35% increase, plus the amount I pay every year for a phone line that I don't want or need (don't even have the phone plugged in).

I took out a Virgin Media 18 month contract last December and received a letter saying my monthly payment would go up by £3.50 in November. I called them up and was prepared to complain at great length, but they instantly agreed to give me a credit for the next 6 months (and possibly renewable) that would counteract the difference. By that stage, I'll be close to the end of the contract so will leave them anyway. :)

Currently paying £27.99 p/m for 50mb Fibre and Line Rental. Line rental is £17.99, I think, and £10 for broadband. This is the deal I got when they were going to increase prices back in February.

Yes I have a coupon code to switch to sky fibre for 12 months for £15.36 all in. Worth looking at if Virgin don't play ball.

I can't post the link but go to Hotukdeals and type sky fibre deal :)
  • Currently paying £30.25 per month for 50 MB broadband only, increasing by £2.99 from 1st of November.

I perhaps rashly accepted the upgrade to 70 MB a couple of weeks back and then received the letter saying "Your bill is changing".

Can Sky use the same fibre network that Virgin do?
  • Can Sky use the same fibre network that Virgin do?

    No.

Sky Fibre uses the BT Openreach fibre (FTTC) network.

Only Virgin Media offer services on the Virgin Media cable/fibre network.

Nothing rash about it you have a month after your notification to cancel your contract without penalty.

We only accepted a new deal a few weeks ago, before the increase in fees was announced. We have got till the end of October to either suck it up or do something about it.

As the Broadband is in hubbys name but comes out of my bank account and he is better at haggling than me (being a former salesman has its uses), its on his 'to do list'. :rotfl:

All in all i think it depends on the mood of the representative you get to speak to at the end of the day.... and yes that comes from my daughter who is a former Virgin Media customer service representative.
