Wow, like others on this thread I'm still using my summer duvet (and I feel the cold!). You must be somewhere northerly?

What I find helps me in the winter is wearing long sleeved nightwear. Also socks if it's really cold!

Still have the bedroom windows open 24 hrs.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Wrist-warmers make a huge difference in the winter evenings (just cut the toes off an old pair of socks if money is an issue)
    I second this.

I have very weak wrists, so I wear a pair of elastic wrist supports for some tasks, and I find with the extra warmth they supply, I end up sweating buckets!

Also, a piece of advice my grandmother gave me is if you want to cool down quickly, run cold water over your wrists and I can tell you this does work, so it stands to reason that warming your wrists will help you feel warmer generally.

If you can knit and have an odd ball of wool kicking about, it'd be easy to knit a pair of wrist-warmers, I should think. You wouldn't even need a pattern, just knit a piece in rib, the right size to go snugly around your wrist, add a couple of press studs to fasten it on, and there you go! :o
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • I'm too tight to have the heating on overnight. When I lived in an old drafty property I wore thermals under my pjs and a woolly hat in bed, plus hottie bottie. A fleece blanket (often on offer in camping shops) under the sheet helps too.

You must live up north I take it? Heatwave in the SE this week.

Nope down south LOL. I feel the cold quite a lot though.

Go for a run or a bike ride. A 30 minute bike ride in the morning mid winter with shorts and t shirt is enough to keep me warm all day.

Health problems unfortunately so no running or bike riding. Even walking is hard enough most days.

We haven't even progressed to using our 4 tog duvet yet, we just have the empty duvet cover - so like 2 sheets - on our bed.

    And no heating.
I'm in the house now wearing a sleeveless top & shorts.

    Lots of good advice already.

    Same here!

I'm going to London in a couple of days and I'm worried that I haven't booked a hotel with air conditioning.

I am playing 'dodge the menopause' so between hot flashes, I'm grateful to be cool ;)

OP- I would suggest lots of layers on your bed (and yourself) with a few 'spares' to hand so you can pile on or strip off as needed

It was 24c in my sitting room this morning and I live in the south Medway part of Kent. Think I'll notice the difference this wekend as I am flying up to Aberdeen on Friday morning for a few days :):):)

P,S, if you are really feeling the cold put a blanket/ thin duvet under your main sheet that you lie on that should keep you warm in bed, and layer up and wear bedsocks and a wooly 'beanie' hat in bed .

Unless you are lucky enough to have a handsome hunk to keep you warm in which case ignore the last few instruction :):):)
  • Thank you all-some good advice there. I do feel the cold a lot but I think that's due to my health issues rather than the actual temperature.
The letting agency is looking into the loft insulation already for me as there's black mould in one bedroom, actually it's in 2 now.
I can't knit at the moment-my fingers refuse to do what they're supposed to.
I've had the bedroom windows open 24/7 since around May but had to shut them for the first time last night. I did open them all again this morning-I like the fresh air :)
    I drink a lot of tea :)
I find layers really uncomfortable-probably because I'm overweight-it always feels like it's too tight on me.
Think I'll be looking for a warm dressing gown-I only have a summer one. And flannel sheets :)
I don't think I'd like to risk an electric blanket with cats and a dog that like to share my bed.
Sorry for the mishmash of answers here!

It was 16c in mine this morning!! It's 23c now.

I think part of it is that it's a cold house in general-when we first moved in here in March 2015 we didn't feel warm for about a month-it took that long for the house to warm up as it had been empty for about 8 months.
