Welcome back page 4 - that nasty page 5 was scary!! Glad they removed some 'unnecessary' posts so we could have you back!0

I used to be a moderator on MyFitnessPal while I was doing my degree and seriously...I think that site received more of my attention than my dissertation.
 Some people are blinking crazy!0

I'm always left out of everything. I'm neither in the secret PM ring nor have I been victim to them....
... but in all seriousness. Given how many users this website has it is incredulous that it is 'moderated' by volunteers. A friend of mine used to be a proper moderator for a proper company who had proper contracts with proper forums (like the channel 4 ones). She had a list of dos and don'ts about what was acceptable. Stick to them and you'd be fine. Don't and you wouldn't be! They were PAID. They were given TIME. Not the system that MSE uses that require people like you and me to self-moderate.
I will hold my hands up, if I had the responsibility to answer hundreds of sodding reports there is no way I'd have the time, let alone inclination to investigate each one. I would take the easy option and just delete said posts etc.
I don't blame the moderators. I blame the people who own the website and forums. They made the decision how they wanted the forum to run. This forum, especially in the arms, is NOT a 'come along, ask a question, get an answer, sod off' forum. Without a core group of people who stay online, who visit regularly there would be no-one to answer any questions. Without these regulars the forum would die. Who wants to ask an urgent Money question and wait a few months for an answer? BUT if the current moderation system continues that will either happen, or the people who are left to be regulars will be so twisted in the head who would trust them!!
TL,DR: I blame the way the owners decide this forum should be moderated.
This is why I always tell someone who's asked a question or posted up a problem to continually report back even if it's a long term issue. Hopefully they will become a regular member and offer advice themselves to others.
The amount of people on forums who just fire up a single thread then just disappear is insane.
I have to admire a different forum's user signature. "Don't just Foxtrot Oscar when you have had your question answered, stick around and contribute! "0

When I raised my concerns about someone posting personal information on the forum. Two people sent me private messages strongly advising me to email the forum team for the purpose of removing my report about the person who made the post. They advised me to comply - or they would make my life hell.

If MSE wanted to get a grip on its moderation issues, they would have done so by now - but that costs money, and the Arms/Discussion Time are seen as "non-core" boards (not moneysaving) so not a priority, imo.Mandelbrot wrote: »The problem with this forum is that no-one knows where the line is any more ...
I'm not talking about the offensive stuff - that was pretty obvious and the vast majority of us would never indulge in it anyway.
It was even fairly clear about some subjects for a while - any threads on them would be removed.
But when factual posts are removed, and people yellow carded (or worse) for writing them, then things are descending into 'joke' territory.
If MSE wants to retain a sense of order and common-sense, then it needs to get a grip on its moderation issues, and soon ...0
