Kitten food help please

Kittens, like all babies need frequent, unlimited food and tons of sleep; growing takes a great deal of energy and they do it at a phenomenal rate. They need worming NOW, as has been said. I do not think tiny kittens should have to eat dry food only. They should always have access to wet food and ALWAYS to water, especially if you are feeding dry food.
You cannot restrict how much they eat. When we first got our kittens, I took two weeks off work (I don't care if anyone out there thinks that is sad; I saw it as responsible) The instructions on the packs of two well-known brands of kitten food, beginning with F and W advised they needed up to five meals a day... try ten. When tiny, they can eat only a teaspoon or two of food at a time but an hour or two later they are hungry again. They are tiny cats! An adult cat's metabolism is far higher than a human's and a human baby's is far higher than an adult's. Kittens need food, a lot of it, whenever they want it.
If I have misinterpreted your situation, I truly apologise but, if you cannot afford to look after them properly then you should put their welfare first.
I have spoken to a different vet tonight who says Tuesday is totally fine to worm them, so with two vets happy for Tuesday I will take their advice, and as I say, I would rather use a wormer from the vet than from the supermarket & anything ordered online won't be with me by Tuesday anyway
I can more than afford them, I only just lost a cat & dog & had them together for ten years, both elderly & costing lots in the end. I am PDSA eligible but don't like to use it as I feel they are my responsibility, so go with a private vet. I am the one who has a thread lasting around 2 months on here before I even got my dog, asking about everything. I have also been a cat owner for 31 years & someone my vet calls an exceptional owner, so please don't worry
I am merely using a money saving website (and even millionaires can want to money save!), on a board of pet lovers, to see if canned would be cheaper, as it's stupid to spend £60+ a month if canned would be way less, or there are brands that are as good. If I couldn't afford them, i'd have them on Felix not JWB 4x per day
Everywhere I have seen, and all vets & rescues have said 4x per day until 4 months, then 3x per day & then 2x per day @ 6 months, and I do have two that can't be supervised 24/7 & need to be split to eat, so all the time doesn't always work so well
They right now have Applaws dry down 24/7 and as I say, she has stopped gorging & they have left plenty, so seem to be having it as they like. I'm not going to give ten pouches of JWB per day & can see they wouldn't eat it anyway, tho good food apparently you need less of
Wet is my preference, hence asking about it, but i'm hardly going to throw out 2kg of Applaws when I have it! How would that be Moneysaving? And in any case, the idea is to save money, you could feed cat food costing £400 a week but it doesn't mean they'd be worse off on a premium dry & my last did make 18
I'd rather feed 1/2 the wet they have now with unlimited dry & not go bankrupt & keep it top quality food, than throw down Whiskas & Felix, but that's just me. Anyway, this thread is to find a cheaper way of feeding premium wet food, as in cans, so keep the ideas coming pls x
Just to add, mine eat way more than a teaspoon & then will go more than 2hrs until they go back to the bowl, so far it's 5hrs & even put in front of it they are full (& they do love it), so maybe they are all different, who knows, but anyway, I already explained they had 4x per day (as advised almost everywhere for their age) & i'd tried dry all the time but felt one would eat the lot, and that now I worked out what is going on & they have dry down all the time (as you can't leave wet down all the time!) and I have a huge bag i'm not throwing. Wonder how my last cat made 180 -
Thank you, UKTigerLilly. I am very glad these wonderful kittens have such a wonderful human to serve them... you do know they are descended from gods and have never forgotten this, right? I wish you and your tiggers a long and happy life.0

I am so glad you reminded them of this (they watch the monitor, they especially like the :rotfl:)
Plenty of photos of the furry midgets on the thread just below, right now boy cat is scratching the tiny kitten sized post, yet he has a 6ft 3 one, typical!0 -
Drontal is identical to milbemax from the vets, availabe for around £1.40 per tablet online.
Drontal and Milbemax are NOT identical, they have different active ingredients.
Milbemax is prescription only but it also treats heartworm whereas Drontal doesn't.
Prazitel is much cheaper at around 80p per tablet but there isn't a kitten version, unless you want to break the tablet into quarters.0 -
That is great information, Feral Moon (love your user name, btw) but may I ask where you came by it, please? Not doubting you, just want to be sure before I dose the furry I am privileged to serve.
Where is Sagz? I am fairly sure he/she is either a vet or veterinary nurse.
I am being really, really dense, TigerLilly, but where are the pics? Needing pics, please! I must be about the least tech-savvy on here
Cheers.0 -

Thank you!
Prazitel is the generic form of Drontal only a fraction of the price. Just the same as you can pay premium price for Neurofen when you can buy ibuprofen instead at a fraction of the price.0 -
Canned food is the way to go for MSE, and with the better quality brands there is no need to worry about getting a kitten specific one. Animonda or Bozita are good options, Smilla might be worth a try too
I am also a big fan of raw and suggest you start giving them a chicken wing once or twice a week to gnaw on which will be great for their teeth, much better than any dry.0 -
We feed Phoebe one wet whiskas kitten in the evening - so she eats it during the night (she is only eating poultry ones just now - turned her nose at a fishy one). And has a bowl of dry kitten food(also whiskas) by her for the rest of the time. This is how we fed our previous cat (when she was a kitten) and it worked well.
As you all like photos - Phoebe at 11 weeks - she will be 14 weeks on Saturday.0 -
Phoebe is gorgeous!
Here are a few more of the furballs . . . tonight their favourite toy is the cardboard box their new cat food came in, with a few holes cut out, at least it smells less then my trainers!
Not quite as brave as her Brother; he walks along the ledge bit! I went with Animonda Carny 400g Kitten tins & will also be getting the chicken wings suggested, ty all. It comes to 50% less than the JWB for more food, so very happy here x0
