Thanks for the replies. Didn't realised new phones were locked to the first simDeleted_User wrote: »It will lock to the network. If thats a problem don't buy it there. To be honest I've never liked CPW returns procedure anyway. If you have a fault with your phone from Argos they will refund you, there will be no messing around with sending it off for repairs etc.
I don't mind staying with my current provider, Vodafone, but I'm annoyed that it's not really Sim free.
Yes I appreciate that I could back out before collecting the phone but I think I got the phone at a very good price and I'll not get the same elsewhere.
Would I be correct in assuming that, later on if I wish, I could get the phone unlocked. Would/could Apple help out here - I mean unlock the phone for me

Given that Apple have raised their prices from things like Sports Bands for the Apple Watch etc you might be waiting a while longer I'm afraid.
In fact Apple have increased the SE by £20 on both the 16GB and 64GB variants.
John Lewis offer the iPhone at £359/£439 still, they offer a 2 year warranty AND they don't lock to the first SIM inserted.
You'd have to contact Vodafone (for example) to get your phone unlocked rather than Apple if purchased from Argos, CPW etc. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
I got my IS6 128gb for £529. I doubt if that could be beaten. I'll be collecting today and there is a Vodafone shop beside my collection point, perhaps if I go in there they will help me set it up - and unlock it ? Thanks all, I've been using Android for several years now so I was out of the loop in terms of Apple pricing habits! I think I'm just going to go ahead with the £35pm deal, if I can ever get through to Three to cancel my current contract!0

Sim free just means the phone comes without a sim. You need an unlocked phone.0 -
iPhones direct from Apple don't network lock. Three sell their iPhones unlocked too. The implication from CPW and Argos is that ALL iPhones lock, that is not the case and only applies to those supplied to some outlets. Thanks for the replies. There are essentially two categories of iPhones, those of which are designed to be sold as PAYG or networked subsidised and will lock to the network of the first sim put in the phone and those of which are unlocked.
CPW and Argos sell their 'sim free' iPhones from the former rather than the latter. I presume because there's greater profit to be had from selling phones from that category at full price.0 -
Apple do seem to offer a brain-dead version of the older phone when they release a newer model, typically by making an 8GB model (but 8GB isn't enough for a smart phone, really).
They did that recently with the 5 to SE.
The 5 has been be boxed many times!
5 to 5C (coloured cheap ones)
5S models. (finger print id)
Recently the SE. (some upgrades I think)
I think the 5 and its size is just a great combo.0 -

No, the 16GB model has gone up by £20 but the 64Gb has actually been reduced by £10. Check out the previous prices here
