I have seen a 30MPH Flashing warning sign on a A road where the speed goes from 60 to 30

Can these signs catch people exceeding 60 in the 60 zone or are they just to warn if someone exceeds 30 in the 30 limit?

I have no issue personally but just wondered as I saw these being activated several times today.

There is a 30 mph sign on the road immediately outside our drive. It lights up quite regularly. It is is situated where the limit goes from 60 to 30. I don't believe it "catches" anyone. It is just a visual reminder which is usually ignored.

They're usually set at 25-28mph too, so I basically ignore them.

I see them as being like a boss giving you false work deadlines, or simply the boy crying wolf. After a while you just start to stick up your middle finger and carry on regardless.

There's two on a road near me. When my car tells me I'm doing 30mph, one flashes 27, the other 29. Very helpful.

I think the speed cameras should have a screen saying; "Gotcha! Kerching!!" Though I doubt Strider would appreciate that!

There's one near us. It has a memory ... occasionally one of the parish councillors publishes the stats. I get the impression it records the speed of every car that passes it. They then take this to the county council / police.

Yes I have no doubt that they might capture stats but wondered if they could prosecute anyone .

I wasn't as saying about excess in the 30 zone I meant excess in the 60 zone prior to the 30 flashing light.

As I understand it there are two way a camera can prosecute 1. is static (Big yellow cameras) and 2.Mobile vans and men with tripods.
also a policeman if you can find one.

They can use any method they like as long as it's a the means of capturing the evidence is approved.

That can include the opinion of a police officer.

But can these flashing lights photograph and measure exact speed in a different zone - ie no sign of road markings etc.

I did say a police officer

This sign was not the type that says your speed

This one flashed up saying "30 MPH Slow Down" it had what looked like a senser in the middle of the sign to obviously judge if in excess of 30 and a solar panel at it rear possibly to power it
