We don't have a property at all now - we were trying to buy a repossession but got outbid just before we were ready to exchange (grrrr). We're moving in with family so we're in a better position to get a property.
Thing is, we can take a hit of a grand or two but don't want to! And we shouldn't have to either, considering we're making a move at a cost to us in order for him to be in, which is nothing to do with us.
And to be honest, we lost the repo because he dragged his heels getting everything sorted, despite being the one in a rush.
If you have to deal with him direct then let him come round and say his piece. Don't interrupt him, don't nod or shake your head, just let him go on until he is finished.
Then tell him exactly what you have told us (obviously leave out the bit about you being able to take a financial hit!) and let him know in no uncertain terms that you are not reducing the price as you have already bent over backwards to accommodate him. Let him know that you don't care if he buys it or not, you're in no rush and you have no onward purchase to worry about, thanks to him. (Try to make sure that he realises that it's his fault!)
Then tell him that he completes or he loses out, it's that simple.
Don't be bullied by this idiot, he thinks he's got you over a barrel, he can't see that it's the other way round. Once you let him know that you have the upper hand, he should start to play nice.

For one reason or another, buying/selling property has the tendency to bring out the worst in some people.0 -
Thanks for all the advice everyone.
Hubby and I have discussed it over the phone on his epic commute, and decided the following, provided the survey valuation matches or exceeds his offer -
He can agree to the price already negotiated, exchange in the next 48 hours, and we will move as quickly as he likes.
OR
If he wants to offer less, then depending on the amount we may consider, but he will have to wait until we have found a property to buy.
If neither of these are suitable the property will go back on the market tomorrow.
I'm dreading him coming over, but equally interested to read what the survey says as the chap was here for no more than 20 minutes and just tapped on a few walls.0 -
Say you are not available but could he take a photo of the survey and email it to you so at least you know of any potential issues before the meeting.0

Chap is here, he's totally bewildered by the survey and seems a bit lost with it all.
Survey has no valuation on it but claims we need a whole new roof - not true - and there are 3 grand more potential repairs needed, one of which he can't know for sure because it involves an upstairs chimney support which is behind fitted shelves.
He's taking it to his solicitors tomorrow but I'm not sure what for. He's a cash buyer so it won't affect a mortgage or anything.0 -
