Sorry to read your news gibletLet’s just pretend I have not been alternately drowning in debt or only eating toast to try and pay it off for the last 20 years 😭0

I was just looking at my signature while posting on another page, and started feeling rubbish about the amount of the mortgage that i've managed to pay since 2013 (about £16000) but then I decided to give myself a good 'talking to' as during that time:
1) DH and I have paid off all of our debt (except his student loan and car). This includes an additional £17000 in home improvement loan since we bought the house (same time period) and my car HP.
2) We've had loads of work done on the house....loads....still ongoing but really 'adding value' stuff!
3) DH had to change jobs, going part time (2 days) for a period. I took on extra work (up to 5 pt jobs) and we both worked really hard for a long time (still do, but it has eased somewhat)
4) We've only really been in a position to OP the mortgage properly since August 2016; did keep the payments the same following remortage in Nov 15, so essentially OP'ing £150 'automatically' due to 2% interest reduction
5) Now OP'ing £600pm automatically (mortage payment, what would have been the loan payment, and £100 'each' that we find from saving on our spends.
6) Life has been very sh*t recently, and we haven't blown it all!
Phew....feeling a bit better now. I just want it gone, and know this can't happen overnight (plus we are lucky / working hard to be able to make big overpayments if we keep spends to an absolute minimum and I don't mean to sound moany to those who perhaps can't do this).
I'd love to be free of the mortage in a maximum of 7 years; we predict 10 atm, particularly if we're lucky to be blessed with children and that will be fine, but if I aim for 7 atm, everything else is a bonus!
Sorry for the rant,
Gib xxDebt remaining:

I'm glad you talked yourself round with that.
You've been through a lot personally so that fact that you are still on here & still in the mindset that you want OP & haven't thrown in the towel is brilliant.

Thanks dolly and INOD; really appreciate your kind words.
Expecting a slightly spendy weekend (certainly more than usual, as I don't tend to do anything usually lol). Have 2 meals out for a relative birthday, coffee with a friend, and a long overdue catch up with the hairdresser!
To offset this somewhat, I made a cheeky £50 overpayment to the mortgage whilst I was sending some birthday money
kind of like a present for you, a (sort of) present for me...at least in the long term!
It's a bit grey and miserable here today; working on some admin stuff but lacking motivation. Also a bit cold as my heating is broken (again). The temptation to get into bed and watch films is very strong. Must resist and be a good girl.
Hope everyone else is having a nice Friday
