  • Do you mean a GPS watch? I don't think cheap and those go in the same sentence :rotfl:

I was thinking of treating myself to one after I have completed the 9 weeks, I haven't looked at any yet, I will justify it by getting fit without having to pay a gym membership. I could get a watch for 2-3 months gym membership cost, although I like indesisiv's suggestion of ebay I will look on there first once I have completed the c25k.

To those that use MFP is it any good?

Have been using MFP for around 6 months to log basic food intake. I don't eat any processed food so getting completely accurate numbers is a bit hard (nope am not going to weigh every ingredient in a recipe) but it gives a general flavour of how much I'm eating. For me it's more about eating enough rather than weight loss as I'm running about 200 miles a month plus 750 miles on the bike.

As for a running watch..... Get something that does and shows heart rate, that's the most important thing. GPS is nice but running to a specific heart rate I.e 70% to 80% of your max heart rate will have you losing weight, running faster and getting fitter much much quicker.....try it!
  • Completed week 3 day 2 this morning and definitely felt like I could have done more running and I don't feel tired or achy at all, so might push myself and miss out day 3 of week 3 and move onto week 4.... :O

    What a rebel :rotfl:

I did consider the same, I am on week 2 but instead decided on the next run I will just push myself harder (whilst keeping to the run/walk schedule). I am keen to see how I can do.

If the last run is just the same as the other two and you feel fine I don't see why you shouldn't miss one out, its no different to the other way round, if you have found it hard suggestion is to repeat a run before moving on.
  • The GPS part? so how does using the mobile data as well make it more accurate?

I take it a GPS watch would be the most accurate?

Not that it matters to me a rough estimate is fine for my purposes, just interested, think I already admitted above to being a geek :D

Triangulation gets the phone to do all the calculation based on the time it takes to ping the masts rather than the mast etc sending data.

Yes, gps is more accurate as it's based on atomic clocks and a specific gps chip to decode the data.

:eek: Wow thats amazing Are you training for anything? Or just for enjoyment? To do that much is such a commitment, how do you fit it all in?

Thank you after I complete the C25K that will be my next purchase so I can train better.

I moved on to week 3 today! I wasn't going to, but then had a good day at work and felt like I had the legs for it :) 3 mins was hard, but I did it all and felt very good about it afterward. It is great to see/feel the improvement.

I've also cured my tight calf muscle by rolling a tennis ball under it each night, which made running much better!

Well done to everyone for completing your runs in all weathers!

fletchasketch- Well done on completing it in the rain! It's always been sunny for me so far, but probably need to get used to running in the rain as I live in the North West, it's ALWAYS raining! I had a lovely sunrise this morning, but it was the first time it was cold.

iammumtoone yep, same. Who bothers to shave legs if no one is going to see it! haha! extra warmth for the winter! I can see a fairly well without my glasses or contacts, but obviously I can't go swimming with contacts.

Thanks! Congrats on getting through week 3, it really started to step things up this week so great if you did it easily. Hope everyone had good runs tonight, think I'll have to leave the next one until Friday, 25 mins, eek!

    Well done.

A foam roller will be your friend, its one of the things I kept from my old running days, I still used it occasionally even though I wasn't exercising. Mines just a basic one but you can get all sorts of fancy types not sure if there is any difference in them.

I'm sat on the sofa looking at the foam roller ... for some reason I just can't seem to get myself to use it ... 10 mile run yes, but 20 mins on the foam roller ... No.

Well done all for getting out in the rain. :T

Currently a summer thing. Out of the house by 05:30 for a run normally a 10k plus a longer run Sunday... About 18 miles. Living in London cycling is the easiest way to get around quickly.
