How much weight do you want/have to lose?
There's no increased risk of having HG if you weigh more, and if you did suffer with your next pregnancy it's surely going to have less of a dangerous effect if you weigh more in the first place.0 -

It's a good point. It's maybe something best discussed with your doctor.0 -
It's good to lose the excess weight before the pregnancy, - if you pile on the baby weight while already being overweight it'll be so much harder to lose when the baby is born. Probably why you see so many obese mums around, pushing buggies and prams.
For what it's worth I've never found that any fashionable/fad diet works. As soon as you start eating normally again, the weight piles back on. You need to make permanent changes to your eating habits and lifestyle.

Personally I think it's worth £5 a week, although I do buy countdowns as it saves a bit more cash. For me, it's a social thing too.

I give another thumbs up to MyFitnessPal. Just log as you go and you can clearly see how much you have left for the day so can adjust dinner accordingly. I never tried SW but did WW successfully after the birth of my DD - lost 3.5 stone. But I never got into some of the strange habits that some attendees did - I didn't buy the products at meetings, I didn't live on pink&whites because they were only a point, I didn't start eating sugar free jelly, etc. So many people didn't use it as an opportunity to re-educate their eating patterns and simply switched to ready meals and tons of artificial sweetener. As soon as they reached goal they just went back to their old ways and put it back on, usually with interest.
If you use an app that shows you what is in the food - and cook from scratch to make it easier to adjust, then you come out lighter and healthier - and no poorer.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

Another vote for myfitnesspal. I used it in 2014 and lost 2 stone over about 5 or 6 months.
I added various friends on there (only one of which I actually knew in real life) and that gave me some added motivation and accountability. I started to really enjoy swapping around ingredients to get, for example, the most protein for the lowest calories, etc.
Just a shame I got so off-track again last year!0 -

It's Slimming World's way of saving a bit by paying up front for 6 or 12 lessons. IIRC you pay for 10 and get 12 (or pay for 6 and get 5 if you prefer). It's non refundable if you give up but it does help some people stick with it. Sometimes there's a gift like a recipe book or a journal.
I'm a SW fan as I think it's a very healthy way of eating and sustainable long term. It certainly doesn't have to be expensive and unless you choose to buy the relatively new SW ready meals from Iceland you don't have to buy any special 'diet' foods.0 -
A slimming club would make you eat less to lose weight, so your food bill would go down, thus making the £5 a good investment!
No it wouldn't. Slimming World allows you to eat as much as you like. It's what you eat that matters.
OP, I can't comment on whether you *should* spend £5 on a slimming class. I did because I needed to be accountable - and because there were others in my workplace who were also doing SW in various locations, so we had each other for moral support. If you have the books and are confident you can stick to it, then give it a month on your own.
It's four years since I started, and I got to target 51 weeks later. For me, it was money well spent, and I generally maintain the same healthy eating plan. I am within tolerance levels for their target members still - but I do have to work at it. I haven't been back to classes though.
5:2 I couldn't handle, as I really don't cope well if I am hungry!! I am also at that age where drinking buckets full of water just to stave off hunger pangs means I will have multiple toilet visits during the night, so I will be hungry, grumpy AND tired. Totally respect those who have the discipline to do it though.
It must be frustrating if your OH is naturally thin and one of those people who refuse to eat in a manner to support you. I think I would be inclined to take a hard line with him. You're having SW lasagne and veg - so is he. Or he goes without. It won't hurt him to eat healthily with you. He can have snacks - or fill up on syns if he needs to eat crap. There is no reason for your food bill to have increased dramatically. As others have said, seasonal fruit/veg and Aldi are your friend. That and the reduced section in any supermarket (our Coop often reduces veg to 10% of its original price after 7.30pm. Stir fry veg for 10p!).

Just to add, after the first few weeks we found that we are rarely hungry whether on fast days or normal days.
We've realised that our eating was so much indulgence and habit. Once I retired, I'd have breakfast around 8 followed by lunch around 1. I deceived myself that this was a healthy salad sandwich - plus cheese and often with chutney.
I had a big test on Saturday afternoon. The rugby season has started, so OH went to watch a game. I usually have a quick Hoover round, was kitchen floor, then lounge on the sofa with the Guardian and a small bar of chocolate.
There are two bars in the fridge, been there since middle of April. I did not give in - not to hunger, but to habit. I knew I'd be having ice cream later, anyway.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Just to add that friends who've had great success on 5:2 tell me that it helps to be able to choose your own fast days. They find having busy days as fast days is better as when at home it's too easy to eat from habit or boredom or just because it's there. When you're out and about you have to buy food (not very mse) or take a low cal snack.0
