Ask on the Sky help forum? Most ISP routers are rebranded generic models so should be capable of something basic like this.
Hi yeah...great minds...yes in fact I did and it turns out the Sky hub has no functions to offer that would be useful but for sure a good suggestion. I was hoping that would be the magic bullet. They confirm that I could replace it with a Linksys model that indeed does have device v time/days usage options. So for sure this is a good fallback.

Is a point....there's no fear factor but implementing agreed rules using a bit of tech is also not a bad thing. And if they are that bright that they can navigate round the tech then it implies learning and knowledge which is ok with me.
I've used s/w parental control on PC's very happily in the past and without any tech hassle.....this is just a bridge further with wider devices.0 -
They'll just access t'internet through their smartphones if the WiFi doesn't allow them access. Which you are no doubt paying for if bedtime is 8:30pm.

No like I said in the original post its mostly aimed at the networked TV and associated feed boxes.
No the tablets & phones are fairly easy to manage but TV's and Fire TV boxes etc are a little more head scratch.0 -
The SMART TV's can have sleep timers - If you need more security/control with these you need to sideload apps. This tends to void your warranty.
With the iphone and android yeah sure you have family safety apps that can lock at certain times.
Sky have a "family" feature to restrict content. But I've never messed around with one of their hubs (yet) to see if it does time restrictions.
Thanks for the reply. Honestly speaking it's not so much the content I'm concerned with with but a solid OFF of equipment at a fixed time.
The sleep timer sounds interesting and I will take a look at that for sure. Do you have any data or links for the side load apps...very interesting.0 -
Have an electrician separate the bedroom sockets from the rest of the house, and install an isolator switch, somewhere else in the house.0

OK lets try send the kids to grandmas let her worry, because its too late to wish you never had any. There is not a technical solution that been invented yet, and most intelligent kids would find a workaround within 2 minutes.

Had a laugh at that....a tad extreme but funny all the same.
Not sure that is entirely fair on the tech side. It's a common misconception that all kids are spawn with massive hacker abilities. As mentioned I'm looking not for any internet filtering or clever stuff but a clear OFF function.
It for sure can be achieved with a replacement router that identifies device and time/day....and that isn't getting worked around by any Neo Matrix kid unless they know the router password. The TV's and TV boxes are don't forget hard wired not wireless. And it looks like that is the way forward.

Just set up firewall rules on your router that block network access from the relevant devices. Then manually enable/disable them as needed.0

If Sky is your ISP then you can only use a Sky supplied router as your username/password is hardcoded onto it. You cannot use a non Sky supplied router on their network. It's on your Terms and Conditions.0 -

Is odd, this is reply I had from Sky tech support a little earlier...
"If you'on broadband unlimited that is fine, if you are on fibre then the Sky Hub must be used. There are the user name and password you use for the Linksys on the forum, just do a search for those details on the forum. If you are on fibre you can piggyback the Linksys onto the Sky Hub, by setting into access point/bridge mode only."
I think if I understand this correctly then it is possible. The wire that comes into the house is an 8 pair copper cable fed overhead. I think this means that it is not optical but not 100% sure.

And that said I also received another reply from Sky....
"Fibre is delivered via the same cables, so you can't judge from that. Either check the package you're on via MySky, or post your router statistics and someone here will be able to tell you whether it's fibre or not. The post pinned to the top of the forum explains ow to post your router statistics."
So could be back to zero there....will check our config.0
