Parking etiquette
Hi
Just after some advice regarding parking.
My sister is renting a mid terraced house. No parking at the front as it's double yellow, parking is at the side (no markings or signs) or the back ( a single dirt track)
I've come to visit and there was space for two cars at the side (three cars were already parked up on the same side) so I park up and visit sis
A bloke walks up and tells me I can't park there; he owns that part of the land and I have to park at the back of my sister's house.
I've moved the car as I didn't want to cause trouble for my sister but is he talking rubbish?
Thanks

Not if he actually does own the land at the side of the house.
Unlikely if it is a street, possible if it is a dirt track or a drive. There might be a general right of access that doesn't include parking if this is the case.
Best to do what you did and park outside your sisters anyway.
People who are so possessive about parking spaces that they will rush and tell you to move tend not to notice when mysterious hooded figures vandalise cars usurping "their" spaces.;)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

He's almost certainly talking a load of !!!!!!!! but if you go on the local district or county council websites, they may have maps that show you what land belongs to whom (i.e. public land / private land).0

Sister is ging to talk to the other neighbours and also ring around as suggested.
We're not looking to cause trouble but equally not going to be bullied by some person that has nothing better to do than stare out of the window0 -

All day and night, at your car. Plotting and scheming, getting more and more angry and unstable every second

What does her landlord/tennancy agreement say?0

so this 'parking at the side' - is it a street, and an area of gravel or grass, or something else? Any signs to indicate that it is private property? A picture may help."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Whether the guy owns the land or not, personally I wouldn't park there. As other's have said, you risk your car being damaged. Furthermore, your sister will be the "new" neighbour and I wouldn't want to upset the apple cart with the existing neighbours.0

Land outside some bodies house is classed as a driveway... As such you can be clamped for parking there.
EU regs are to thank for dat0 -
My old neighbour owned the access road that ran alongside the side of his garden to the houses at the back so it is possibleEx forum ambassador
