  • My ma still has her wedding dress; not a big puffy thing thank goodness. She let me try it on once after my OH and I got engaged; we couldn't do the zip up at my bust :rotfl:. I had the same waist size she had had when she married dad, my hips were an inch smaller but my bust was around 3 or so inches bigger! Her dress was made by a friend to fit her perfectly.

I don't have a wedding dress. OH and I are still not married *rolls eyes*. However I wouldn't ever get a white dress. Ma knew if her dress fitted me that it would have been dyed and she was fine with that. We were both upset that her dress wouldn't fit. That kind of alteration just wasn't possible to the style of dress.

Mine is in the loft - I hope that dd will wear it .. she says she loves it ... but she is only 11! its very simple princess line with shoestring straps, so would be 'easy' to modify for her.

the veil & tiara have been borrowed a few times by friends.
  • My first one I made myself it was a copy of a Laura Ashley style, I donated it to a schools drama department.
My second, again home made was red lace I shortened it and wear it out to posh do's

Mine went in the loft for 24 years, which always bothered me.

So earlier in the year I sent it to Cherished Gowns (mentioned in the article).
This is a very worthwhile cause, I've just looked at the website and am very touched by what they are doing. I'd volunteer my time if I were an able seamstress.

I unpicked the deep frill off my 1979 empire line dress and DD wore it for dressing up for a couple of years, it was then passed down to another keen 'bride to be' younger friend. The Juliet cap was looking quite battered by then, but they had a lovely time wearing the dress which is more than can be said for the marriage.

I chucked my wife's away by accident doing one of my garage clearouts. She wasn't amused ...

Last time I saw it, I'd put it inside a duvet cover to protect it. Divorced over ten years ago, since moved house a number of times. Have no idea what happened to my duvet covered wedding dress!

It is in the attic as we had planned a church wedding in our hometown after the official wedding in the country we both live in now. Dd got born the day after the formal wedding, and the church wedding never happened. Dress is white and was new, but only cost €300. It's main reason for being worn was that it hid my bump :). It is waaaay too big now, so will be sent to dh's African family. If they cannot use it, they can sell it.

  • Mine was a "meringue" type affair 25 years ago and is currently being used as the dress for the Carnival Queen each year in my mum's town!! I kept my veil which has been used by other people and will be available for DILs should they wish to (although I certainly won't be offended if they don't)

  • I sold mine on eBay to make back some money and gave the bridesmaid dresses to a lady that lost hers in a house fire a week before her big day.
