How to keep the same number
Good evening all
I am wondering if someone could help me with the following please.
I wanted to get a new mobile and get the best contract tariff as possible. I am with O2, unfortunately they couldn't do me a good deal so I've decided to go with a third party (Mobiles.co.uk).
I have terminated the contract with O2 today and have been given a PAC code.
After this I have found out that I won't be able to keep the same number.
Has anyone got any suggestion how to keep my old number please
Thank you

I thought you should be ok as you have a PAC number.
Take out your new contract.
You get given a new number for a few days.
Then find and follow the instructions to request the number to be moved over within 30? days
E.g txt your pac .
Hummm . I expect I have that completely wrong. I'm sure someone will correct me0 -

I have been told by O2 I won't be able to use the same number as I am changing from O2 to O20

Port the number to a pay as you go sim, then port it back 30 days later?0

1) It has to be via a different network.
2) Your old contract is NOT terminated; unless you USE the PAC within 30 days of its issue your old contract will continue. Any notice is negated by asking for a PAC code which has a 30 day life.0 -
Asda payg sim can be useful for this purpose as it doesn't require a top up - 10 mins/10 texts/10 mb data free
. You can also just phone from a landline/another phone to Asda customer support. Free to order online or £1 (or 50p?) instore if you are in a rush.

Port to Asda, once it arrives and goes live, port straight back - it only takes a few days max each way :cool:0 -
Hi MobileJunkie/Anon
many thanks for you helpful replies.
I am going to get my new phone on Monday, but won't have time to sort out the Pay as you go at the moment. Do you know if my old sim card would work in my new phone for a week while I am away?
I would sort out the Pay as you go afterward.
Also do I not need to first terminate the contract with Asda's Pay as you go in order for them to give me a PAC code.
I've also read the following on Asda's website
"We are entitled to charge your new network provider with the reasonable cost of porting your number to the new network provider "
Have you used their Pay as you go and if so did they charge you?
Many thanks0 -
If the sim is the same size and the phone is unlocked (or on the same network) it will.
I don't know about the other questions.0 -

Networks may charge each other to port, I don't believe customers pay so nothing to worry about.
Give you PAC to Asda mobile - that will port your number to them and close the original contract. Once your number is safely with Asda, phone them and request a PAC then give that to your new network (closing Asda account).
Asda sim may not work in the new phone (though you mention O2 - once you receive the new phone and SIM, use that new O2 SIM briefly on their network then login to your online account and request an unlock - free on contract phones).
Remember you have paid for your original SIM and any allowance will be available until you use the PAC and your account closes (when it closes you will lose the allowance but may still have paid for it!).
PAC are not processed over the weekend so it may be best to start the process first thing on a Monday (in theory it could transfer Tuesday if all went to plan, as it can be done in 24 hours if both networks systems are working correctly).

If the new phone is locked a I doubt O2 would (or even could unless it's locked to their network) unlock it under a different mobile contract for free. Usually phones from this dealer are unlocked - check with them before you buy if in doubt.0
