Plusnet and "new speeds"

i'm literally 10 houses away from the cabinet, and get near my highest "old" speed 100% of the time
i don't think the profile has been updated properly at all
My broadband is UP TO 80Mbps and the cabinet is alot further away than yours is, more like 50+ houses and I was consistantly getting 68Mbps. I then did some experimenting on my Master Socket and found that it had a slightly poor connection and I could get 78Mbps if it was taken out and plugged back in!.
So even such a small thing can make such a big difference.
If you want to get the top speeds to need make sure all connections are 100% and all telephone wires are kept away from other wires and not damaged, maybe een replace all microfilters.0 -
i don't think the distance or wiring is an issue, i've read around that people get their profile manually updated because their speeds weren't matching their package... the rep i spoke to insisted that the highest my line could possibly achieve was 45 down
saying that, i've not used my landline in many months because it was always quiet and had persistent static, how would i go about getting the socket tested?0 -

I may be remembering this incorrectly but I was was on the old 40/20 FTTC and the email only said you 'may' see an increase in download speed, so seem to have covered themselves there!
Mine has gone from 38/18 to 45/9 since the change.
Line rental is separate to the BB charge - most have put theirs up recently, some twice0 -
it's a socket that has both the phone and the internet in 1, a master socket i think they're called... would noise on the phone line generally pose a problem for the internet connection?
The filter in the socket could be faulty or their could be a faulty connection. There are various types of Master Socket and different ways to check and fix each one. Some have a faceplate that can be removed and replaced with a new one as an easy test.0 -
You need to post the connection stats from the router.0

lee, what stats exactly?0

Sync rate and max attainable0
-
figured i'd update this thread because something happened to my line a few weeks ago when they were tinkering with the new network... my line dropped from 38~ to 33~ (sync rate), while my "max" dropped to 30-31, i've spoken to plusnet directly and they reckon the DLM kicked in and stabilized my line, now i found this odd that after more than 2 years of frequent disconnects 1-3 a day, the DLM miraculously starts working on my line and fixes it (i suppose) by lowering my sync speed to the point where i would no longer get randomly disconnected
nothing is wrong they say, as technically my hub is still syncing at around 33 but i'm getting closer to 30 (32.4 is the min attainable for range A) so is this right? too much confusion surrounds sync, attainable, and actual speeds0
