Plusnet and "new speeds"

I'm having an issue with plusnet at the moment, mainly about the new speeds that i'm not getting, speed tests show the same speed i've had for the last 2 years...

The rep i'm speaking to has used "up to 55/10" when mentioning my new package, and that my old package was "up to 40/10", but has also said that my line isn't capable of pushing more than 45 which is the upper limit of the "predicted speed" of the 40/10 package that i was on for the last 2 years

How do i fix this? I'm so confused right now

You cannot fix it its as said the line from the cabinet to you .

The key is UP TO and individually that depends upon your line .

What is your IP showing in the router .

I just don't understand why they emailed me and put the line rental price up if my line is fixed at the old speeds and not capable of pushing anything higher... why even bother at that point?

what information are you asking for exactly and where can i find it? i'm using a hub one

Line rental price rise nothing to do with the new speeds its just a price rise .Its a price rise to all users not just you .As is it a speed upgrade to all users capable of getting the extra speed . Essentially BT Open Reach have uprated the lower speed packages sold from 38 meg to 50 meg .

You pay for one line rental that is to supply data over the line to your house . That data is either phone or broadband or both . Speed available to an individual is dependant upon the state of the cable to their premises . That is why the quotes are UP TO .
You pay two for an individual BB package from an ISP .

Run the BT wholesale test and when finished run the further diagnostics .
That should show IP profile like below .
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedshelp.jpgis 35.83 Mbps-51.19 Mbps .
    Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 51.19 Mbps

but you need to rent a line for internet from most ISPs, and since i don't use my home phone, this price has affected the overall price i pay for the internet... this price rise was quoted in an email stating that my upper limit would be increasing, when it doesn't appear to have at all

the further diagnostics show these odd results, especially the upload rate:

Download speedhelp.jpgachieved during the test was - 35.24 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedshelp.jpgis 25.93 Mbps-37.05 Mbps .
    Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 37.05 Mbps

Upload speedhelp.jpg achieved during the test was - 6.61Mbps
    Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps

the speeds achieved are what i've always had since i moved into this property 2 years ago, though at the time my package was stated as up to 38 down and 9 up... not sure where the 20 up has come from since i've never gotten anything higher than what this test showed

Without reading the email i cannot comment . But presume it was much the same as the BT price increase email . You have 30 days from the email to cancel services without a penalty .

Yes you need to rent a line no way around that .
But an alternative is over the air internet from your mobile phone provider .No land line required .

Across the board line rental price increase .

Your line is not capable of higher speeds that the ISP has upgraded free of charge to those customers capable of higher speeds .
Complaints contact OFCOM if you think something is wrong .

Point to note the vast majority of internet servers don't allow you to connect at high speeds anyway so for most their is no difference between 25 and 55 meg .

i'm on FTTC so i can't see why my line would be limited when FTTC can go up to 80mb

granted for general browsing you don't need much bandwidth, but i play games and download through steam quite often, and sometimes stream programmes

my proposed speeds were changed (upgraded) because openreach no longer offered the package i still appear to be on... so i'm stuck at old speeds

i do think something is wrong, can't you see it too? nothing adds up, plusnet and openreach have different statistics on everything and plusnet can do nothing but tell me the predicted speed

plusnet site still says the unlimited fibre package is "up to 38mb", doesn't mention the upload speed anymore, which is strange, wonder why that is...

Because the limiting factor for FTTC is the quality and length of the copper portion of your line from the PP to your house

i'm literally 10 houses away from the cabinet, and get near my highest "old" speed 100% of the time

i don't think the profile has been updated properly at all

    Well that's a different question .
Ask PN to raise your profile if its to high you will get continual errors and dropouts .

PN have changed upload speeds see posts on this forum .

i know what they claim to have changed, but my speeds are the exact same as what they were before

nevermind, price bumped twice in the last year, it's a kick in the teeth when nothing changes
