If one of the witnesses had intervened that would have made for a more interesting video.0

On the other hand she may have seen them and she could nt give a monkeys what she sounded like. After all Jeremy had really upset her holding her up for 15 seconds !, I don t blame her for wanting to shoot him ! .
I expected a couple of motoring apologists coming to her defence but it was that bad your comment is the nearest one so far to a defence of the poor dear.
Believe me it was no defence. There is no defence for her behaviour. I'm a cyclist too and have been hit relatively recently by the stereotypical 'white van man'. It's just that sometimes these people get so worked up its best not to provoke. I'm not sure i'd have started filming him had he got out, with his mate and 2 crowbars if you know what I mean. Plus, it would ruin my Strava time!0 -
I don't understand why he said he needs a car's width, but it's irrelevant as there wasn't enough space to pass anyway.Head_The_Ball wrote: »Cyclists like to give parked cars a wide berth in order to avoid being injured or killed by someone opening a car door in front of them.
Motor vehicles overtaking cyclists should allow a full car width where possible for a variety of reasons that are regularly posted on here.
I suspect Jeremy Vine was somewhat flustered and meant make one or both of the points raised by Head the Ball.
There clearly wasn't space to overtake as he was going past the parked cars, and if anything he should have been even wider of them.0 -
I think Jeremy was going plenty fast enough down that road anyway not to have to stop his own progress and pull over. looked a good 12 mph, which is faster than the London average.
Personally I would like to dig a little deeper to find out why she had such a view on the humble cyclist ! We are moving along faster than a mobility scooter does with a wider profile and no one froths at the mouth at them.Maybe its learned behaviour egged on by people like Clarkson who has written/broadcast many times how cyclists are militant , self righteous and "angry " on the road all the time. Where has all that come from ? I ve been cycling around Yorkshire for decades and never had much problem apart from an increase in EF words shouted at me and once when someone spat at me ! I m a 30,000 miles a year driver as well, and never ever had a problem with cyclists in my way..Is it a London thing ?0 -

Think you'll find resentment ("froths at the mouth") towards mobility scooters is more commonplace than that. Especially when they are being used in the road with the rider thinking they are an absolute pro by using the indicators on them.
Or when they breakdown on a roundabout and the rider ends up directing traffic until they are recovered.
Dangerous when used like it's a regular car. They just can't keep up with other traffic. 8mph tops? Unless of course they have one like Colin Furze that can do 70mph.
Worst incident had to be one riding along a major A road with traffic blasting past it at 40.0 -

Absolutely.
TBH it looked to me a few times like Vine was doing his best to get some good footage. Its perfectly reasonable for a cyclist not to hold up a motorist but to let them pass at the earliest opportunity. Whether you have to legally or not, if its a long road its common courtesy. And he was clearly baiting her with all that stuff about if you hit me its assault.
At 12 seconds through it looks like there were no parked cars and he could easily have gone to the side and slowed to let her pass. At that point the video changes to rear view though to stop that from being obvious.
And then he slows down, writing on the video he slowed "to explain". Well I've no idea what his motives were but I'm betting it didn't look that way to the woman who probably thought he was trying to annoy her.
While its always wrong and foolish to get angry like the woman did, people who have a calm personality who make sport of their more hotheaded friends by provoking them are probably worse members of society. Although of course the women has to get in trouble she completely lost it.0 -

No it isn't.
Common courtesy is to not expect another road user to get out of your way and not get angry if they don't! Why should a cyclist be expected to stop or ride in the gutter to let other road users with a sense of entitlement get past. Their journey is no less important than anyone elses.
I'm not a cyclist, I don't even have a bike but I have none of the self entitlement that this woman and many other people have. I'm happy to share the road with anyone. Yes it's irritating to get stuck behind a horse, a tractor or a cyclist but I play the hand I'm dealt and wait until it's safe to pass, I don't expect them to be 'courteous' and get out of the way.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

It is courteous to move over if you are unreasonably delaying someone but in this case the delay would have been very minor and for a short distance and therefor reasonable. At the end of the video the car and cyclist are next to each other which shows the time gained by passing the cyclist is zero.
Despite her reluctance to slow for a short distance she had time to twice get out of the car and verbally attack someone.0
