At what temperature do you wash towels?

Two-person (both adults) household, don't use biological powder.
Always do towels and hankies at 60.
Bedlinen at 30 - we have one set that is rather lovely batik (bought from Skye Batiks in 2007) and it came with an instruction to only wash at 30; and I figure if it's ok for that, it's ok for the other sets of bedlinen also.
Re the info from the NHS site: if I washed my undies at 60, they'd likely disintegrate!
ETA: When I had my first home, there was nowhere to put a washing machine, even if I could've afforded one, so everything was washed by hand. I don't know what temperature exactly I'd have been using, but certainly no hotter than I could put my hands into!If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Towels are washed as per there label which is either a 40 or a 60.
If the towels are very soiled then they are washed on 60.
Bed linen is washed as per on the label of item which is either 40 or 50 - again very soiled items are washed on 60.I am a Senior Ambassador on the Competitions Time Board and the Old Style MoneySaving Board.

Government guidelines say 60, THEN we are being told to save water and power and wash at lower temps, I had a friend who used to wash towells daily, well, come on, you are presumably clean, when you use them, and all mine say on the labels wash at 40, everything gets a quick wash, either 30 or 40. They are always hung up to dry completely after use, I think that makes a difference, to bacteria. it is said the reason we have so many allergies, and children with asthma, eczema is because they dont come into contact with "germs". Dont get me wrong, I AM fussy, (Hubby and daughter say OCD) if something came out of the wash with a stain, it would go back in the next one.0

60 oC because I always use the quick wash function and lower temperatures don't clean my clothes properly. Anything less doesn't kill germs and I'd rather heat bacteria to kill them than use environmentally damaging antibacterial washing liquids like dettol. Overuse of household products containing these is contributing to antibiotic resistance of bugs, in my opinion they should be banned.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. I'm with you. Towels and cloths on 90, bedding 60, clothes on 40.0 -
Towels and bed linens at 90.0

My WM only goes upto 60. Towels and bedding get the 60 wash, 'normal clothes' at 30, DH (builder) work clothes get a 40 long wash.
Re: the males in my house - I have written to the manufacturers of both Washing Machine and Dishwasher complaining as both appear to be genetically hard wired to only operate for me  Next time we purchase it will be a unisex model :TNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

I wash everything at 40. It all comes out clean and smells fresh, so that'll do! As stated by previous posts - must be okay as still alive. Why do some people have such an obsession with killing bacteria - we need it to strengthen our immune systems - not all bacteria is bad. You're just being brainwashed by the cleaning corporations who want us to drown in their nasty chemicals.0

I have never seen a washing label on anything suggesting 90 degrees. I rather thought the temperature recommended was the hottest it was safe to use, to avoid damaging or shrinking things.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

If I have towels and bedding that will fill the machine I'll do it at 40 or 60 dependant on my mood but generally everything on 30, machine is at least 15 years old, I use concentrated liquid and have never had a problem with smell or mould because the door is left ajar always. Once or twice a year I will run the machine empty at 90 with maybe a splash of white vinegar.
I really do think unless there are particular issues in a household there alot of germ phobic people on this thread."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0
