UPDATE
Well the £500 by their system went through later that day but the bad news they have made an error and sent it to an incorrect account number and now trying to locate this payment. You really could not make this up.
If what you say is true, then this should not affect you at all.
They made the error, they should have immediately corrected it by paying it to the account you instructed them to pay it to.
Recovering the money they sent to the wrong account is their problem and nothing to do with you!

I have now sent a complaint through. Apparently even though this is a regular payment every month their system sent it to an account but left off the last digit. They have now put a trace on the credit and should be back into the account in 48 hours.
The earlier one I sent by me went through with no problem.0 -
UPDATE
Well happy to report the missing payment has just gone back into my account. I am now cancelling the regular payment and will do it myself manually from now on.0 -
Well if they left off a digit it won't have gone anywhere as (hopefully) the Nationwide system will have rejected it as an invalid format account number, and even if they didn't then the Faster Payments system would not have accepted the transaction for the same reason.0

Must have gone somewhere into cyber space because it definitely left my checking account and only returned after my complaint.0 -
...Standing Orders are all sent by FPS. It sounds more like an internal regular payments problem to me.
When I logged in to Nationwide online banking yesterday at about 9.30am a warning was displayed that there were problems and there would be delays to internal transfers, standing orders (... other things) but that faster payments were unaffected. If only regular payments internally were affected that would have been covered by "internal transfers" and there would have been no need to mention standing orders specifically.
I don't recall any mention of delays to incoming funds but some of my regular credits that are usually there at the start of day arrived later than usually.0 -
Interestingly they are doing maintenance on faster payments on Saturday night to Monday morning. I'm guessing it's related to these problems.0

And I'd guess that you're wrong given that it appears that there was no direct issue with Faster Payments, only a knock on effect where SOs were not passed to FPS. I'd be fairly confident that this is planned maintenance.0
