O/S Daily Tuesday 30 August 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, very light cloud and blue sky - sun starting to appear. Load of washing ready to go out on the line.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit.

Dinner yesterday was a very late lunch but early dinner once we got back from being away. We had a clear up of pork steaks, sausages, 2 x burgers, hot new potatoes, salad, coleslaw etc, then ice cream or chocolate cake. Tonight I'm not sure as plumber is coming to re-connect DS1's radiator straight after work. DH and myself are supposed to be going to get some food shopping straight after he comes in from work - he hates shopping, bet there's some reason why I finish up going and doing it on my own!

Had a lovely time away - weather generally good although had a really bad storm Saturday tea time, we were with DH's grandad, so pleased we were as his car port leading into his garage and the front of his house (he lives on a downward slope) got quite badly flooded but once the rain had stopped and storm passed over it drained away quite quickly. We helped him clean up for quite a while on Sunday morning.

DS2 did much better in his exams than we expected and passed more than we thought and has got his grades to get on his course, he has his enrolment appointment for this Thursday 1 Sept, he then starts Monday 5 Sept. I'll just feel more at ease once he's enrolled on Thursday. We had celebratory fizz and chocolate cake whilst away as some good friends came to visit on Saturday and stayed most of the day, was a good catch up.

Back to work today, I'm expecting a manic day as generally this happens when we've had a Bank holiday and been closed for 1 day - also 1st of the month is this week, we'll see.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning All

Dry again, washing out. DW emptied, no packed lunch today, had a lovely pasta bol at school yesterday so I'll have my salad today.

Cut the grass last night, it went very grey and windy as if it was going to rain but nothing came of it thank goodness. Also cut out some bags so I can get on with sewing them this week, cutting out is my least favourite part of sewing.

Hope you all had a good bank holiday if you were off, just another normal day here. School seems to be settling in well and the new HT is really nice, I think she is just taking everything in before she decides to make any changes.

Hope everyone is well, have a good day. Take care. XX

Morning everyone. It's dry outside though it's not forecast to stay that way.

After my busy few days I hit the bed and sleep fairly early last night and just conked out. Today I've got a patient for the local hospital this morning and a meeting in Oban this afternoon.

Camelot - can you post a photo of your bags please? They sound lovely.

Food is left overs for the next two days. Yesterday I had my left over Chinese takeaway from Thursday (it smelt fine) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now there's still soup and home made beef korma to get through.

    Happy Tuesday everyone.

Good Morning chums ,another bright and sunny day here in north Kent, forecast is good.I have some banking to do this morning, plus DGS Jack wants to open a bank account with his cash he got for doing so well in his exams so we will have to make an appointment for him for this week.

Hope everyone has had a good weekend ,normality resumes today and this week I have the boys today and Thursday and Friday.Friday night we are going to Wembley for a footie match that I got them tickets for before our holiday.None of them have been to Wembley before so it will be a treat for them before they go back to school next week.DGS Ben is obviously back in Norwich so can't come ,but Mikey's best Friend Charlie is coming instead as we don't want to waste a ticket. He is also having a sleepover on Friday night as we won't get home until late.So Mikey is chuffed to bits.I'm not much of a footie fan but I know they will be excited to see the 'hallowed turf' :):):)last time I was there was with DD and we saw Robbie Williams, far more exciting for us both :):):)

    Have a good day chums

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread nmlc and well done to your DS2 on his results xx

I had an early night (for me) last night and went to bed with all the windows open. Slightly chilly this morning brrrrr! DS1 is labouring Tuesday to Thursday this week. He has an extra shift at the cafe on Friday then his usual shift Saturday. Saturday night he is starting a new job at a local hotel (did a trial a few weeks back). He will be shattered but has to work his notice at the cafe.

All washing up to date. Need to get DD some school shoes this week, DS2 still has decent shoes that fit him so no need to get his for a while.

I recorded Victoria and am looking forward to watching it. I loved Osborne House when I went on school journey aged 11. Hoping to go back maybe next year?

    Have a good day all

    Morning :hello:

Well that didn't last long. Yesterday, Scampi was speeding around the garden barking his head off, mr tru says 'Oi'.......'Scampi'........'Do you wanna go in?'........'If you don't stop barking you'll have to go in'.......... I stormed downstairs and informed him that the word he's looking for is 'no', then I called Scampi in – it took three attempts and a bribe of squeezy cheese on his toy bone because by this time he's beyond overexcited – he trotted in nicely and I shut the door. I haven't spoke to mr tru since.

On the plus side, I was so angry and needed something to take my temper out on, so I went up to the bathroom and scrubbed til I'd calmed down. It's lovely and shiny and looks brand new :D

I'm trying to get all the housework done before everyone goes off to work. I've hung two loads of washing out, swept the floors and swished the kitchen. The utility room needs sorting out, I'll do that when I've finished this coffee. We'll spend some time in the front garden with toys and treats, every time we go out there Scampi stays calm for a bit longer so it seems to be working. Then I'm going to amuse myself by googling things like 'how to live a fabulous life while living with a feckwit'.

  • Morning folks. Thanks NMLC for starting off. Forecast of 21 deg and sun for today which will make our journey easier - no changing trains/platforms in the rain or extreme heat.

We need to be on our way by 11.00 ready for the train to Leeds, then onwards to Liverpool. I shall shortly make a picnic lunch to eat on the train. The usual feeling of dread at what the scans will show has come over me, although it will be a month before the results are with the consultant in Leeds. A worrying wait. It's almost a year since Mr TA was started on the radionuclide therapy at the Royal Liverpool and, compared to this time last year, he is so much better that we can't help but think they have helped with shrinking/stunting the growth of the tumours as they hoped. It was never going to be a cure, more keeping him stable.

DD, BF and the 3 girls are due back from the IOW today - we will be like ships that pass in the night as they journey up country and we journey down, although our journey is nowhere near as long as theirs. I shall be relieved to hear they are safely home as it's a long drive for her.

Have a good day folks and (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone,

Thanks for the thread nmlc, glad you enjoyed your break, :j on DS's exam results x

Yesterday was just dandy, the weather was beautiful so party was held in the garden. It was lovely to see all my cousins again and we all had so many stories to share of when we were kids, spending time at our grandparents house etc. It brought back so many happy memories and lifted my spirits immensely, we have promised to do it again next year.
Mum held court in a shady corner and everyone seemed to spend a little time with her, especially my two Uncles. No doubt she is tired today but am sure it will be worth it.

So, today is hand in notice day :T obnoxious supervisor is off this week but am sure will get to hear anyway, would love to see her face :)

Ha Tru, am sure that particular page must be well thumbed :rotfl:

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x
  • Morning all

It's sunny here today and it's the last day of my holidays, I need to go and buy hubby a new watch strap and play money tetris at the bank.

Tru, I feel your pain, my L&M will insist on talking to the dog in sentences, yet will willingly lecture me about only using one word commands!

He is in my bad books today, I spent ages working out finances and I thought I was going to be able to retire Christmas 2017. I double checked the figures he gave me for the plans he had made only to realise he had left out huge chunks of information. I shall now be working for another 3 to 5 years.

Lainey, I'm glad mum was able to attend the party.
TA, I hope the results are positive.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone!
Still in bed with a cupppa making the most of the last week of school holidays ( and I'm off work this week) and children sleeping in! Enjoying catching up here.
Nmlc - well done to your ds2 on his results.
Tru - most searched page on the internet
Hester - oh no that must be so disappointing for you.
Camelot - I'd also love to see a picture please, sewing is one thing I really wish I could do! I've been given a machine but need to learn how to use it.

Keep your fingers crossed for me this evening please! Have a lady coming round to look at something I'm selling, it's advertised for £75 so even allowing to get knocked down a little it would be a nice welcome top up of funds for this month.

Suppose I'd better get moving! Hope it's a good day for everyone xx
