Who says? Its an air con regas for £49, not a full diagnostic fault check.

Surely you're not suggesting that an oil service shouldn't also include a full all-system computer diagnostic, replacement cam belt and a 3 year guarantee on the ashtray not filling up?

I generally don't use between say November-March during the colder months. I don't find that the air con does anything. Also when you test for pressure the Kpa is way way down compared to the summer months so i wondered if it was even worth it & maybe this is why it feels like it's doing nothing.

Outside of those months i use it regular.
It's in winter that I find the aircon most useful. It dries the air and pretty much eliminates misting of your windows. Cars with aircon don't tend to have the fresh air inlets that they had before, and I found my car misted up badly unless I ran the aircon. I currently run two older cars, neither of which has air conditioning, and to be honest I miss it on these damp mornings, when the cars mist up quite badly until I get some heat into the system and some road speed to flow the air through. I had totally lost the habit of keeping a chamois or sponge in the door pocket for early starts :)

On my last car with aircon, you could turn it off, but the 'auto' button ran the aircon permanently, and I took that as a hint that this was the way it was intended to be used.
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.
  • Is it worth the cost for the 3 days/year it's a bit hot?

I've got another system in my car, it's called: windows that open. :)

Totally worth it when it is +30 degrees on the M25 in a 2 hour traffic queue. I wouldn't buy a car without one

I've used it in winter, but when there's so much condensation on the window i find it pretty useless. A little misting yes, but plenty of condensation - the karcher window vac comes out.

My 1998 plated Ford Escort had incredible air con. It was like a freezer & cleared the windscreen in a second.

This 2001 plated Astra isn't anywhere near as good, even after a brand new Vauxhall condenser & minutes after regassing.

If it is that bad there is a fair chance you have got water inside the car and not just the regular condensation. When I have a badly misted up screen you can see the blower clearing it slowly, press the aircon on and it clears in seconds. Combine it with the heated screen and it is gone almost instantly.

I have the same car. My A/C was better after I replaced the pollen filter.

That's one feature i miss of the Escort.

Shame the only metal strips that worked though were all on the passenger side :rotfl:

& Kaiser - i change my filters regularly myself. Thanks though.
