I love time off work, the chance to go at your own pace, get household jobs done and just think is priceless. The older I get the more I realise that I'm an introvert, I like people's company and I love to talk - yet I can happily spend a day alone :)

I've been looking at my budget today and thinking of some mini-goals.

    My top three priorities are

    1. Build £1000 emergency fund

My washer almost stopped working this week :( luckily with a classic switch it off/on again it was back in service! It made me really think - normally this would've just gone on my credit card. I need to stop seeing credit cards as my money, otherwise I'll be a slave to them forever!

    2. Payment Plan for Credit Cards

On closer inspection my current debt situation is as follows

    Card 1 - £12102.14
    £7500 on 0% interest until 31 August 2017 and £4602.14 0% interest until 31 December 2017

    Card 2 - £5529.57
Balance on 0% interest until 16 April 2017

    Card 3 - £3604.97[/B]
Balance on 0% interest until 21 April 2017

Total credit card debt - £21,236.68
Existing fixed debt repayments - £297.97
Monthly payments on credit cards - £375
Total fixed debt repayments - £672.97

So, I'm going to pay £150 to Cards 1 and 2 each month and £75 to Card 3 that way I'm making a little more than the minimum payment on each.

I'm going to put a further £575 into my savings account each month, this will give me 1.50% interest. I'll then decide allocate the money to the cards when the deals run out, I'm going to review my payments/savings monthly to keep on track.

This is going to make it tight, but I can do it with sensible budgeting :)

    3. Sticking to a budget

What really helped me to pay my debts last time was working to a budget and not dismissing those £5-£20 spends as nothing, they all add up! So I'll be aiming to see how many NSD's I can do this month and tracking my spending using my spreadsheet.

I'll track my NSD's and any spends outside my fixed monthly payments here to keep me accountable.

Your goals and prioritises are great. You are off to a flying start. I agree with NSDs. I had my first ever 4th NSD in a row today. It really helps when the budget is tight doesn't it?

Thanks DIA :) well done on your 4 in a row, that's great :T they do make a lot of difference, especially when you fit them in as often as you can.
  • Thanks OE - my plans are pretty ambitious, yet writing them down yesterday made me really think of all the things I can do with my life when I get my money under control :)
  • Morning Diary and fellow Debtfreers,

It's a beautiful, crisp sunny start to the day, you can feel the slight chill in the air that tells you Autumn will be here before you know it.

I'm just relaxing with a nice cup of tea, wrapped in my fleecy dressing gown - it's the simple things that never fail to put a smile on my face :)

We're off on a family trip to the seaside today, I'm well prepared with snacks and drinks, the journey won't take too long. It's our puppies first trip to the sea, can't wait to see what he thinks to the beach!

I wasn't going to say it before I went, just because I didn't want to jinx myself but I can't help it - I'm excited today as my trip will actually be a NSD, my lovely OH will be paying for my lunch and travel costs :)

I've helped him out in the past by paying for trips and holidays - it's so nice for him to return the favour. :D now all I need to do is stay strong and not buy anything while I'm there.

Hope you all have a great day

  • We had a fantastic time yesterday on our family trip to the seaside, we ate fish and chips and hung out on the beach :)

Our little puppy loved his first trip to the beach, he was great travelling in the car and came with me for a little paddle in the sea. We were all ready for a good nights sleep when we got home!

It was very almost a NSD - I ended up feeling guilty as everyone else was paying for food, drinks etc. So I cracked and spent £11.50 on donuts and drinks for the way home, I'm not disappointed as in the past I'd of wanted to pay for everything! It's all progress :)

I made up for it today with my weekly shop, I got up early and did a freezer inventory and meal plan. I got a lift with my OH as he was off to have a haircut which saved travel costs. I wrote a list and came in under budget by £22.79 so it all balanced out in the end. I even got a free hot drink as my local supermarket has renovated it's store/cafe - I pushed the boat out and had a hot chocolate :)

A very MSE day so far - likely to be a low/no spend weekend, I've got the day off on Monday so no doubt that will be an organising/cleaning day.

Hope you all have a fab Friday
