Selling house 'under the radar' - possible?

Comments

  • Ask the estate agent agent just to take a photo of the front of your house and no interior photos.
Have a floor plan so people have an idea of the size and flow of the rooms. In the description blurb state viewing are highly recommended etc.

A lot of people do not want the neighbours to see how they have/have not decorated their property.
  • Slight amendment - maybe a lot of people don't want HMRC to be able to work out just how much income they apparently don't earn has been spent on refurbing a house.:rotfl:

Our neighbours directly opposite us moved house recently. They told no-one and didn't have a board up. Unfortunately for them, another neighbour put her house up for sale at the same time and when we all went on Rightmove to have a nosey through her details, their house was listed just underneath hers in the index! :rotfl:

I don't know why they had to be so secretive, all of the neighbours knew them and spoke to them, the husband was very friendly with my husband, they often spent an hour or so, having a natter about their cars on a Sunday afternoon. Yet when they moved, they didn't say goodbye to anyone, we didn't even know they had gone until we saw the new owners moving in.

Still, we know what they sold for and we know what the inside of their house looked like, so it's all good! :D
(We even know where they moved to, we're friends with the husband's son!!)

So what if it's their gossip of the week - you'll hopefully be gone soon!

As above, they will recognise the signs. Someone will be outside your house taking photos for a start.

I have alerts still set for where I live so know everything coming on the market. If any of my neighbours sells, I'd know. I talk about property prices and selling with one of them every time I see him lol. Maybe he thinks I'm a nosy ol' bag :D

Unless you have something you don't want them to know, I really can't think why you'd be worrying about them finding out.

It'll prob take a while to get a buyer, and the process will take about 3 months, so I don't think you'll keep it a secret anyway. You'd be better off being blatant than letting them search out gossip.

Your buyers may go knocking at doors in the street. Most on here do. I don't, but would maybe chat with someone who was outside of their house.

    Jx

Hmm, maybe you are the neighbour the OP refers to :D

I'm presuming that without a for sale sign and a listing on rightmove the house will be harder to sell. I'd rather have my neighbours know and potentially a quicker sale.
  • Maybe a difficult situation re the neighbours is the reason for this?

I know a couple of mine have made it very plain that they would have preferred a "local" to buy my house instead of me. So - in some ways it would be the case that, if I were going to sell it, I'd prefer them not to know in case they were on the lookout to try and put off any would-be buyers they didnt approve of.

Of course - I've already thought of the answer to that one - ie make sure it's slanted to appeal to people across the country as a whole....and coming out welcomingly to say "Hi" to the buyers for the tour of inspection before my neighbours had the chance to say/do anything...

I think the comment about it not being on rightmove was tongue in cheek (see teh rest of the comments)

Depending upon the circumstances a For Sale sign may be irrelevant. There arent going to be many people who decide to look based on a FS board they see.

Depending on the circumstances, it may very well attract interest. I've certainly followed up on signs I've seen in the past.

Thanks all for info on this
It was just to see if possible as we're all in same apartment block with shared entrance ect
And as you can guess some elderly folk would try to find out or get to any potential buyers, not worried about pics inside and we can't have a board up so that wouldn't be a problem :)

    TY.

We bought our house after walking past and seeing the for sale sign. At the time I had no intention of moving!
