Oh a question if you please. We have frozen ham slices that we never got round to opening. Do you think they are OK to defrost and eat even if they are way way way past their use by date. We obviously froze them before the use by date. Thanks

They should be fine as long as they were frozen before their Use By date - the date only applies to items that have been stored in the fridge. Foods that are suitable for home freezing usually have instructions on the packaging stating limits for time in the freezer, but I've eaten things that have been in the freezer for a year and never had any problem. Having said that, I haven't had much success with frozen ham - it didn't go off, but it didn't look very appetising once defrosted, a bit like frozen strawberries, not quite like the fresh version but still edible.

Well done on your brilliant loss candyapple! :T

    Welcome Sammy-Kaye

"I don’t see how having “35 syns if that’s what you need, then carry on as normal”, i.e. could be at least 125 syns in the week trumps 105 syns for the week."

Greentiger I am in complete agreement! I don't save syns but our consultant said the above (using 50 syns as an example!) and I couldn't get my head around how that was okay. I mean I understand the underlying premise of planning for it and getting straight back on track but I thought a "save 'em up if you have a special occasion' approach would make more sense.

I'm still chugging away, waiting for my Saturday weigh-in. Going well so far although tomorrow could be a danger day as I'm out all day with a family member, followed by book club at a friend's house so will have to make the best choices I can based on what is available. Just wish it wasn't all the day before weigh-in!

  • Forgot to add my menu for today:

Breakfast: bacon, egg, baked beans and a dash of HP sauce (1 syn) Tea with milk (HEA) and sugar (1 syn)
Lunch: Ham salad (1 syn for dressing)
Dinner: Vegetable stir fry with soy sauce, ginger and sweet chilli (1 syn) and noodles
Snacks: Grapes, banana, Hi-fi bar (3 syns), slice of toast (HEB) with jam (1 syn)

ETA: Oh beanie, don't be hard on yourself, it would take a saint to stick 100% to plan with what you're dealing with. The gain doesn't matter, it's only one (or even two) weeks. You've got loads of time to put it right. Hope you feel better soon. x
  • Menu today

    Breakfast - 2 weetabix (hexb)
    Lunch - tuna salad
Dinner - hunters chicken with lots of veg. (Cheese as hexa)

Syns - milk (guess about 2 for cereal and small cup of tea), bbq sauce (2), possibly a light hi fi bar later (3) = 7.
  • Amazing result candyapple!! :j

    Welcome sammy_kaye18 :T
  • Hope your pain eases beanielou.

Lots of sympathy from me. My knees are driving me mad and the more painkillers I need, the less the weight seems to want to shift.

Thanks for responding. I am aiming to use it on a SW carbonate hoping to camouflage the wilted look.

Sorry you feel like that beanie. Maybe once you've been to group and found out the bad news you can build from there.

Those pink wafer biscuits are 2 syns each Sammy. That seems to be standard for most brands. I know they sell them in Farmfoods.

I've never understood the flexi-syn argument either except that it means if you go way over syns (maybe for a special occasion) then take the hit and get back on it straight away. While you'll probably not lose that week it has to be better than thinking I've blown it so I'll just carry on synning.:rotfl:Personally I'd rather try and rein things back but that's not something SW advocate as they believe everyone needs syns every day to stop them feeling deprived. I believe in a bit of delayed gratification as the weekend wine syns are worth it.:D

I've had a SW breakfast but I'm going to post my menu later today as I seem to be sabotaging myself a lot lately.:(
