Oops, Nifty Digits - didn't see your post until after mine as I was searching for a solution.
Thanks
Might just set it off again now, though I don't like to leave things running too long, or overnight
If you can't do it any other way, I can burn it to a dual layer DVD and pop it in the post for you.0 -
NiftyDigits: that is really generous of you, I cannot believe someone would do that for me, thank you.
I tried it again, just after my post last night about 8.20pm and it was still going okay a couple of hours later.
I checked again about 1.30am and it had Failed 20 mins earlier - no idea why, I had changed the setting to Never shut down.
I don't know if the dvd player installed can read dual-layer discs?0 -
Probably, but in the meantime you can download the standard image to be found in your inbox.0

NiftyDigits: have just pm'd you. Many thanks :T you are a complete star on here :A0

Hi, NiftyDigits: Got the image on disk at last, phew!
Have read the instructions with pics (my sort of guide) and will attempt it shortly.
I just want to double-check before I go ahead with it:
10: If I get two partitions as shown in the example, do I erase the largest one first followed by the 100mb one - or does it not matter?
If there are any more partitions (which I doubt) do I erase those too?
29: Windows update option. Do I still go with the 'Install important updates only' suggestion?
I seemed to get the windows updates hanging problem last time unless I chose Ask me later?
As before, many thanks for all your help :T0 -

The 100MB first and the one next in line second, then to install to the newly unallocated space. No need to bother with any of the other partitions. Can leave those as they are...if there are any.
Once complete, you should download and install Internet Explorer 11
You'll need to be patient with the updates. They will arrive...eventually. You should leave the PC on for a while.0 -
Thank you once again, NiftyDigits. Just to clarify, which is the best option to tick in the Windows Update option - number 29
Should I go for Install important updates only
OR
Ask me later?

A bit late but Win 7,8 and 10 have two options built in;
-a complete re-set to factory condition which will delete all your files and programmes but give you a pristine windows
-a re-set which will bring your windows up to new but keep all your files and programmes
There are techie names for these options which I can't remember
I've done both and they are very easy to do.It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -
Help, please NiftyDigits - I'm stuck already
Typical for it to come up with 3 partitions, not 2.
They are, in order:
(the second set of numbers are the Free Space)
Partition 1 70.0MB 61.0MB OEM (RESERVED)
Partition 2 RECOVERY 10.7GB 4.5GB SYSTEM
Partition 3 OS 585.4GB 541.7GB PRIMARY
Is it Partition 1 and 3 that I choose?
Thanks0
