They seem like really good value, don't really need a 2 litre engine but at that price its worth considering
Mine was a rare single cam 2.0 Saloon with an Autobox, the 137bhp engine with cheaper tax and meant to be a bit more economical.
On a run I could get nearly 40mpg driving sensibly, usual overall was low to mid 30's which I found acceptable.
There was a 160bhp (ish) twin cam engine initially badges as 2.0R which was faster and probably roughly the same on fuel consumption
I owned the Legacy for four years before some tool nicked it and I had no desire to sell it.
They are reliable and comfortable.0 -

A lot of car for the money.
I prefer the looks of the model before, just can't get on with that cars front end.0 -
Hi all,
As the title says this is my rough budget to replace my Skoda Fabia
Very happy with Skoda so am thinking of getting an Octavia Estate, but what others should I consider? I've also thought of Golf Estate, Volvo V50 estate. Would probably be looking at a petrol engine with emphasis on economy over performance, but not too slow.
Any thoughts much appreciated!

I had a mk2 Octavia (I think it was 2013 they replaced it with the newer mk 3) and I thought it was a good estate for load lugging as I mainly used it for carrying bikes and similar with the seats down. The mk 2 Octavia was a good bit bigger than the equivalent Golf Estate although I think the newer versions of both are similar capacity. Depending on how big you want there's the Superb estate as well which can also be good value for money and offers a huge amount of space.
I disliked the diesel engine and changed to a 2010 petrol Mazda6 which I've been happy with, it has a few handy features like being able to drop the rear seats from the boot although it doesn't feel like I can pack as much in at the back even though on paper both cars have similar capacity.

Card carrying Mondeo maniac here - there are loads around so you can be picky, there's rarely any issue with spares (ahem), the estate is only 3 cm longer than the hatchback but ye gods the boot volume & it doesn't drive like a thumping great lout of a car.
Even the 1.8 petrol I'm running shifts nicely, laden, and the combination of the big boot & high NCAP rating make it a cracker of a family vehicle. If you like the Octavia, give the Mondeo a test drive?!0 -
Dacia Logan MCV

Hi. I'm actually about to advertise my Hyundai i40 estate for around £9000. One of the larger boot spaces, plus only £30 per year tax and excellent fuel usage - got to Oxwich Bay from Bedford and back again via the Cotswolds both ways on half a tank of fuel (£35) last week. You can message me at sarahjane5381@gmail.com if you're interested. The cabin is very spacious too. Only selling as we no longer need an estate car. Mileage is about 55k and it's a 61 plate.0

Octavia is getting a facelift next year, so second-hand prices on the current mk should/may drop slightly. Not sure if £7k gets you the current mk or not?
Just mentioning in case you can wait. Others will know better than I what, if any difference it'll make at your sort of price point...0 -
I'm planning to buy over the winter, need to save a bit first. Just seeing what is available for now. £7k just about gets the current mk. Best I've found is this one with 20k miles!
