7k to spend on estate car
Hi all,
As the title says this is my rough budget to replace my Skoda Fabia
Very happy with Skoda so am thinking of getting an Octavia Estate, but what others should I consider? I've also thought of Golf Estate, Volvo V50 estate. Would probably be looking at a petrol engine with emphasis on economy over performance, but not too slow.
Any thoughts much appreciated!

Golf and Octavia are the same platform IIRC, but you'll get more car for your money with the Octavia. Volvos are nice but a lot more expensive.0

If I had 7k I would be looking at a c320 or with a bit extra 350 cdi Mercedes estate.
Still the best and most proven diesel engine on the market.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
Mazda6 also worth a look. You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0

Thanks but looking for something cheap to run/insure etc so not a Merc
Also am thinking petrol makes more sense as we do very low mileage0 -
You can get pretty good deals on Vauxhall Insignia estates with the 1.8l petrol engine. Pretty decent cars with giant boot space. I wish I'd got one.0

I can't find the link, but apparently the Insignia has one of the largest falls in value of any new car; I don't understand why. I hired one once and I thought it was excellent. A good choice for a used car imho.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -
Left field choice?
Subaru Legacy.
I don't think the petrol V50 petrol engines are that economical, though I found my last of the non DPF 2.0D V50 very reliable.
I would probably go for an Octavia is you liked your Fabia
Though your budget would get you into a current shape Ceed estate I suspect.
As Herloz has said the V50 holds a premium, the mechanically identical Focus might be worth a look at.0 -

.
There are definitely some decent ones out there at that price.
