Broadband Wifi Hotpsot

Options
Hi Everyone,

I've been looking around for a personal wifi hotspot so I can connect to the internet when I'm out and about. This will be done only occasionally for a light bit of surfing, mostly when I'm on holiday when I want to check out a place to go. I'll need to be able to connect from France and Spain when I go there.

I'm confused by this. I've found a device at Argos that connects to the Three network. It seems to fit the bill except the Pay As You Go credit seems to expire at the end of thirty days, which would make it very expensive. Is there a way that I can use Pay As You Go and just use the credit as and when I wish and which doesn't expire after 30 days, like I do on my mobile phone?

I'd be grateful for an tips about this.

Many thanks,

John

Have you looked at how much the data costs as I believe that feel at home will not apply to a sim in a mifi
  • Thanks. There are quite a few devices that allow you to use Pay As You Go for a personal wifi spot. It's just the topping up that I need help with, please. Is there a way I can top up with credit that does not expire after a month?
  • Three do other mobile broadband credits eg 3GB that expires after 3 months and 12GB that expires after 12 months.

The cheapest way to buy the credit seems to be to buy a new sim each time eg from eBay or Amazon, rather than topping up an existing sim. I think the 12GB ones are about £28. The feel at home works on these sims too.
  • Many thanks. I've had a look and they seem to be good value but they also run out after 90 days. Anyone know a way that I can use a dongle with a sim that does not expire after a set time period?

The SIM does not expire. The bundled data does once you begin to use it or activate it. If you don't want to buy a bundle that lasts for a particular amount of time, don't buy a bundle.
You can get a Three Data Reward SIM that offers 200MB free per month or their normal mobile broadband SIM allows you to buy a 500MB bundle for £2.99 that lasts for forty eight hours.
You'll just have to fit the existing solutions to your pattern of usage.

Cheaper than the Three Huawei E5330 MiFi is the Vodafone R207/Huawei 5330 for £19.99 Also supplied with a 2GB data SIM.

You can unlock it here for £0.99p and then can use it with any data SIM.

You would still have to do that with the more expensive Three model if you need to use it with local SIM whilst travelling abroad.

If you want a 4G MiFi, the Osprey Mini 2 is the cheapest to obtain, at around £21 plus £1 to unlock.

All MiFi will work for Three's Feel At Home solution once unlocked.
