Hefty bill for a new boiler

I currently have a tesco card fully paid off with it's 0% term ending this month. £2700 credit limit, but don't think it's going to be much use to me in this situation.
If you already have a Tesco card, why not apply for the Tesco 21 months at 0% purchases card?

You are allowed to have 2 Tesco credit cards and given that your other one is fully paid off, if the new 0% purchases card doesn't have a high enough limit - you can split the limit from your old card to make up the shortfall.
Tesco's minimum repayment is also only 1% so you can overpay as much or as little as you want to within those 21 months. Tesco are also generous with their credit limits.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. from what I've researched, Ideal boilers are among the budget range, with Worcester and Valiant leading the market. But then Atag boilers, fairly new to the market are another level above them. But then we can't compare just on the brand, there's also the model and performance to consider too.
If there are any experienced plumbers here I would love to discuss the job with them and I do really appreciate the advice, but from what I've found, what I've been quoted is fair.0 -
Hi Mr Derek, we had a new boiler installed in May this year but it was a straight swap. We were fortunate to need it during BG's half price boiler sale, saving approx £550 right there. I then managed to negotiate a further £300 discount by disputing much of the "extra work" quoted as, in our case, it was unnecessary. I urge you to shop around, as prices can vary widely. I was advised to go for an independent local installer but their quotes were more expensive purely because of the "sale" at the time. We got a Worcester as well and had to pay a 10% deposit before it was fitted so that brought down the monthly payments as well.
I applied for and received the Post Office 0% 27 month card within, I think 10 days, was asked for no ID at all, it was all done on line. I was prepared for delays and hassle from the warnings on here but they do not apply to everyone. I have no idea who does and does not fall foul of these extra requirements.
If anyone in your household qualifies for certain benefits, there is assistance available in certain circumstances; a twenty-five year old boiler would be a good candidate for replacement, I would have thought. Ask a question on one of the household boards. There are plumbers and gas fitters on there and it would give you some comfort.0 -
Thanks all for the interest in the quote, I've created a new thread here as suggested - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/71184961#Comment_71184961 if anyone would like to take a look at the specifics.
In terms of funding this, I've just had the 0% MBNA card approved this morning with a £6000 credit limit so I think I'm good. Only thing is that they said it'll be 7 - 10 days before I'll get everything through the post, so having to discuss with the plumber to see if we can delay payment...
Although on sunday it said it'll take 7 - 10 days before I'll find out if I've been approved, but found out this morning... hopefully everything will reach me a bit sooner.
25 months to to pay off this boiler which should be doable if I'm careful, otherwise I guess I'll just have to transfer the remainder onto a 0% transfer card.0 -
Well done, MrDerek. I would have thought, by the time your 0% runs out on this card, you would be in a good position to transfer any remaining balance to another 0% card, provided you pay more than the minimum on time every month, of course.

My brother in law fits boilers and rates the ideal, logic+ with 7 year warranty.
Early models were a bit dodgy.0 -
I recently had a Baxi fitted, £1700, 7 year warranty on parts/labour.
Cash in hand, fitted in 5 hours n a Sunday ( i did remove the old boiler/flue etc)
£3k is VERY expensive !!! What Make/Model is being fitted ? What warranty ??0 -
There's a lot more work involved with my installation, see the separate thread - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/71184961#Comment_71184961
From what I've researched online, Ideal / Logic are budget, and Baxi are about mid range.
With a boiler, I'd want something more reliable / better performance.0 -
According to the BG installer, Worcester Bosch are the "Rolls Royce" of boilers... if what has been said about Atag is true, I guess they are the Ferrari??? I had never heard of them before this thread.
Apparently Baxi and Ideal are pretty good now but both had terrible reputations in the past. The one that died was a Baxi, only 10-11 years old.0
