You say I will run into financial difficulties because all of my money is tied up in investments. You are wrong. The house we are trying to buy is in addition to the house we currently live in. The house we currently live in has no mortgage on it and we will not be selling but renting-out. We have a tenant already who is a relative. Not that it is any of your business but if we are able to get a mortgage our income will increase; not decrease. It seems I have joined an online community of 'give it a go financial advisors', I have not requested financial advise I have asked an open question in the hope that someone with some actual knowledge might know the answer; you clearly don't.

They failed to set the DD up, but you failed to notice it wasn't paid. You can complain about them not setting up the DD but your credit file will be affected as you failed to make the payments as agreed. Did you miss all 3 months payments ?

Multiple (dismissive) posts by the OP here are hardly conducive to healthy discussion.

This is not about my cashflow, but since you ask... cashflow is important because I invest a certain amount of money per month on promoting (I am a children's author) and something called matched betting (I do have a day job also) the more money I have to invest in these things the more money I will make each month. If I fail to invest £200 in July I would loose around £1000 in August. I budget myself very strictly because of these things which is why I made this choice. The point you are missing is that when I made this choice it was made explicitly clear to me that it would not effect my credit rating or leave a mark on my credit report, but it has. I agree that hopefully someone will read this and learn not to believe what British Gas tells you but that can be achieved by reading what I have written. What I am trying to achieve here is to find a solution to the problem I have and your comments are not constructive and rather rude.

I know you haven't requested financial advice but you have posted on a public forum where topics are raised and people give their opinions, so you have to accept peoples opinion.

From all the information you have posted you do not have a good enough grip on your finances!, which has led to you having a "bad" mark on your credit file. Even if they did agree that the arrangement to pay would not leave a mark on your credit file you still missed the fact that the Direct Debit was not taken until you were contacted by a debt collections agency. I manage many different accounts and i will know within 1 day whether or not a Direct Debit has not been paid. If you had kept an eye on this you could have rang up immediately and paid the amount that was not taken before it went to debt collections.

If you have money in betting accounts then why didn't you pay the £200 using a credit card and then withdraw the money from the betting account (it only takes a few days). Not having any easy access to money is not a good idea and is essential for situations like this when a bill needs to be paid.

Also why do you need to keep putting money into your betting accounts each month?. With Matched betting its easy to make at least £1000 a month especially when you first start so the money will build up without you needing to put more in. So having £200 less wouldn't really make much difference considering you have a full time job and are also an author so you won't need Thousands of pounds of liability in the exchanges.

So take some of that unused money out and keep it in a high interest account for situations like this when a bill needs paying. Especially when you will have two houses to maintain which makes it even more likely an unexpected bill occurring.

But i don't see how you will have more money by taking out a mortgage?. That would mean the mortgage on your 3 bedroom house is less than the rent on your 2 bedroom house which is unlikely considering you don't seem to have any kind of deposit to put towards the new mortgage?.

This is not about my cashflow,

You mentioned in post 4 that it was about cashflow and then you have gone on to explain why it *is* about your cashflow.

The point being made is that you should not be improving your cashflow by failing to pay your debts. Why should you be matched betting at the expense of BG?

Perhaps if you acknowledged your own mistakes you would have a more sympathetic response in dealing with BG's admin issues.

Hi, no I didn't miss any payments, it was referred to the debt agency before the 1st instalment was due. To be fair they admitted they were at fault on that and that wasn't what resulted in the mark on my file; I just added it to show what a sorry saga this has all been.

The option of spreading the cost over 3 months was recommended to me by British gas, they assured me there would be no adverse effects on my file.

What was my mistake? Trusting them? Do you work for British Gas by chance?

It may be easier if you quote the posts you're responding to. This is all very confusing.

If you want to criticise my choices fine but that is not what this forum is for.

I didn't criticise your choice. I pointed out the consequence of the choice you made. Which you said you did for the benefit of your own cashflow.

This forum hopefully educates. So that other people don't make the same basic mistakes.
