I suppose we'll have to remove the EU/GB number plates in a couple of year's time and go for full-blooded GB stickers, instead.

I won't be removing mine. Infact I've just replaced the normal plates on my new (to me) car for EU GB ones as the plates had horrible logos on for a dealer the previous owner bought it from.

Just bought a pair of GB number plate stickers of eBay to replace the EU stars, just over £1.50.

If you're going through France then you'll need a safety kit which includes several breathalysers, hi viz. jackets and a a GB plate. Bought one from Amazon last year for around £23. The GB plate was a small, neat design which attached magnetically to the boot lid ....no sticky adhesive residue. All in a black kitbag which Velcroed to the boot carpet.

I hate seeing those stickers on cars they look so rubbish!. You should change your number plates to the GB ones!

    I'm the opposite.

I have the biggest "f*ck off" GB sticker I could find on the back of mine.

You do need the hi-viz jackets - but have you checked the 'punishment' for not having the breathalyser rubbish?

The breathalyser law was a total failure as they couldn't agree on the spec of the kits - but it's now gone into French law and cannot easily be cancelled from the statute books - or so the French say.

The solution was simple though - they just removed all penalties for not having a kit.

Only the French could have that - a law for which there can be no repercussions if you disobey it.

The little neat GB plate would not conform to the international rules on the size of nationality plates - so i wouldn't advise having one of them in Germany or Austria.

That's what I love about the French. If a rule proves to be impractical they simply ignore it. The British would spend years forming committees, agonising over it and petitioning Parliament to get the law changed.

may also find himself in trouble if he mounts his internal GB sticker on a rear screen that isn't vertical and/or where the outer surface of the glass is not swept by the wiper (if any).

The elements of the rear screen heater could also be a source of problems.

Quite right regarding the neat little GB plate. Turns out that the letters are only 52 mm high but need to be 80 mm according to the AA. Good job that we confined ourselves to France.
