Scan/fax/EPSON rx425 EVERYTHING HELP,PLEASE

I cannot get fax to work.
Spent most of last week ageing another hundred years while I tried and eventually uninstalled and reinstalled the 3-in-one Printer, via disk. Still can't get it to work. I'd try this TWAIN thing which comes up as a suggestion, but don't know what this is either.
Now, I can't get it to scan.
(For what it's worth, I have used it only for copying since I had it. Have never used the other functions but had assumed they were there waiting, when I needed to try the other week.)
This eventually comes up with all the Troubleshooting steps taken many times over.
Oh yes - uninstalled(their command was 'disable' but I could not see this word)AVG progs as instructed, prior to running Troubleshooter of Epson Smart Panel(and thought I had triumphed when I finally installed that 10 days ago)

Do you have a fax modem (dial-up) installed in your machine? Have you used this to send faxes? Get that working first and then move on to your all-in-one device.

You can't fax using ADSL. You need a dial up fax modem as fax is analogue.

  • As said, you need a dial-up modem to send faxes over the phone line. To find out if there is a modem inside the computer, click Start - Run - type msinfo32.exe - OK. Click the + next to Components and then click Modem to see the details. If there isn't one, you can buy an internal modem for about £2. Then connect a telephone cable between the computer and an ADSL microfilter-splitter - one socket is for the USB modem and the other is for a telephone or modem - shown here on the left.

The SpeedTouch USB ADSL modem is your connection to the internet, and with this you could use a fax to email service which allows you to send and receive faxes by email.

I've seen this term: ADSL but haven't any idea if that's what I have. Fax failure msgs kept saying number was busy, or, Failed to connect.

  • ADSL is basically a broadband internet connection over the BT phone lines. The alternative is Cable internet, e.g. Virgin, NTL, same as cable TV.

    Thankyou Chippy,
That's what I have then - there is no cable in the village.
Can't even photocopy docs - another day lost as I swirl hopelessly, trying to do my useless best.
    Utterly debilitating.
    ########
Apologies, as usual also - have now seen your 1st reply and indeed, now see a little Speedtouch box thing labelled ADSL filter with 3 plugged in leads.

Just copied this, Chippy - so you can see I've done it correctly, I think :

Okay, you have an internal modem which should be able to send faxes. At the back of the computer there should be an RJ11 socket as shown on the left of this image:

    rj45rj11.jpg

And you connect it to the telephone socket on the ADSL microfilter with a cable like this: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/16478

    Hello Chippy,
Over 2 hours on, and struggling as ever.
Yes, I have a vacant space at back of modem for one of these little squarish connections. I am a little confused - the link above does not show me a cable, but another of these same little shapes, I think. Apart from this, there is no space in the ADSL Filter for any more little plug things. The top one says Line; the two at the bottom contain the one for Phone and other for ADSL Modem HPN. I have experimented ponderously with these variously, to no avail. I have to keep the phone one in directly and cannot even extend it via another identical plug. I keep losing either phone conxn OR Broadband OR both, regardless of my replacing like with like and trying to incorporate something that will also connect to the back RJ11 size gap. Can't do it, Chippy - just can't. Have truly tried - sorry to be so dim.
(just enjoying hearing last episode of Alan Bennett's splendid new book 'The Uncommon Reader')I have written this post 5 times, but lost it via said attempts to follow what I am sure is utterly simple - if only I could do it.

Just checked that Belkin 16478 again, Chippy - yes, it is LABELLED 'cable', but shows only the two ends. I do have a couple of other leads - many actually, but have eliminated all but two which have a square bit at one end and an oblong at the other - this is my guess at what 16478 means to show - is this wrong?
Just to reiterate, if I WAS able to put the little square end RJ11 into modem, there is no place on the ADFSL filter for the other to go, without losing phone, broadband or both.
