You could also try turning around 3 times and then spitting over your shoulder :)

The advice has changed to turning around 4 times and spitting on exposed skin - yours or friend's skin.

It sort of depends which old wife or snake oil salesman you ask.
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

If in Italy, try and get a cream called "ReactiFargan" from a local pharmacy. If you get bitten, then this is good to get rid of the itch.
We use the plug in repellants, nets, sprays, Autan, tennis racket zappers, but still never win and that is after 10 years of living here full time.

    Exactly!

Even though we have a daily routine to deal with this, I still got bitten on the instep of my foot the other night whilst putting the cat out. :o

A marvellous mosquito repellant is one from India, called Odomos.. It has to be ordered on Amazon or Ebay as it has to come from India. Unless you can find a supplier in this country I am afraid this will be too late for this holiday, but it is a fantastic product.
It does have an ingredient which is very similar to Deet, but it has a pleasant smell.
There has been a big discussion about Odomos on one of the Corfu forums and many people have tried it this year and have been really pleased. There has not been one negative report..

Would some independent chemists in communities with predominately Asians stock it?

On Amazon, it says deliveries expected 7-27 Sept. Don't want to order it so its in my post box when I get home:rotfl:

When I lived in Kenya I took loads of garlic and Brewers Yeast pills 3 times a day. It worked on me and my Kenyan family. It's worth a try because at worst it won't do any harm.
You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

It is worth a try, I have just checked again on Amazon & Ebay
and all supplies still seem to come direct from India. I would have thought some enterprising Asian suppliers would have picked up on this demand by now. I have had reports from the other forum from loads of people who have used it with great success. People who are normally mosquito magnets are amazed at the results.

I must add I have no connection with Odomos at all, I just read about it, tried it and now recommend it.
  • I've just bought a mozzie spray from Wilko. 50% Deet and under £3 for (I think) 90ml.
Thought I might give it a go, since Jungle Formula costs a lot more and is also 50% Deet. I have this but at 150ml it's too big for my hand luggage only trip grrrrr!
    Normal people worry me.

If you are using a spray, be sure to still rub it in, or the spray just evaporates on the surface of the skin. I bought the Odomos spray and there were four of us using it, the only person who didn't rub it in one night got bitten 4 times, she learnt the hard way.

Easily solved. Ask the locals where the nearest "mesticheria" is. When you're there ask for "Zampironi". The look like incense cones but in reality a bit smellier. Set them alight and leave them near the window at night. They will repeal mosquitos (called " zanzare" in Italian).
