Where I live, we have mosquitos on and off, from May to September. If I miss a few days of garlic capsules, the mozzies treat me like an airport. There's no way I'd apply Deet every day for 5 months. We have two plug ins in the bedroom, the sonic one by the door and one that takes blue tablets by the window.

I only use a Deet stick applicator if we're having a late evening bbq or are at my OH's place in Greece.

We've just come back from that area and it is mozzy central. In the past 30 years I have hardly ever been bitten abroad, despite never wearing any stuff. They are either more ferocious in Italy, or something has changed as I had over 30 bites below the knees alone. Took some anti-mozzy wipes from Home Bargains, but they were hopeless against the enemy...next time I will be doing the B12, the garlic tablets, the DEET the lot.....

Came back from lake gada yesterday and am covered in bites, as are the rest of our party.
Tried everything, vit b and garlic tablets before we went, jungle formula with deet, avon sss, and tablets in the room.
    They are flipping painful.

If in Italy, try and get a cream called "ReactiFargan" from a local pharmacy. If you get bitten, then this is good to get rid of the itch.
We use the plug in repellants, nets, sprays, Autan, tennis racket zappers, but still never win and that is after 10 years of living here full time.

I have used DEET in the past and its more of an insect attractant for me. I did an experiment of covering one leg in it and more bites on that leg than the other.

Also my bites, they are weepy for at least 36 hours plus so go round wearing plasters with a bit of lint under them. Not a good look.

Why do they seem tot bite me in the worst possible places? Back of knee, corner of knee, inbetween toes etc?

    Do the clickers work?

Right now I'd be more concerned that my holiday accomadation was still in one piece :)

But joking aside, I'm very allergic to bites so I buy whatever is sold locally. I also take a tube of antihistamine cream and antihistamine tablets and I usually survive without scars.

Close Windows as soon as it become dusk, keep covered, ankles and arms, use the local mozzie deterrent and you should be fine

Oh a mozzie net for the nights won't cost a fortune, won't take a lot of room and can really help

Just checked the earthquake map and I'm visiting places NW of the earthquake zone.

Visiting Assisi en route to Rome.

Didn't know how close it is to Perguia.

    I should be OK.

There are quite a few aftershocks going on at the moment, but relatively mild in the area I live. Last was a 4.4 around 2.30pm. The main quake yesterday caused a lot of damage in my area, albeit a few cracks in the house and a fair bit of damaged glasses, plates etc.
If you can put up with a bit of shaking you should be ok. You can look on this site to see how things are going, but it is likely to be quite a few weeks for things to settle down. Add 2 hrs to the times on the listing for Italy.

    You applied incorrectly then

There is no way any mozzies will go anywhere near DEET
There are many published studies and tests that show DEET is 100% effective on correctly applied areas of skin.

This fella is only a Dr in Tropical Medicine so probably not a reliable source ;)
