Mozzies in Italy in Sept

Going to Tuscany and Rome in five weeks time and wondered if there will be mozzies about as I always come home looking like I've got chicken pox and needing antibiotics as a few go septic.

Buy a plug in for the accommodation and use repellant when you're out.

Highly likely there will be especially near the river.
You can get some plug in repellents for the bedroom or bracelets for when you're out and about.

Ankles, wrists, fingers are the sites these pests choose on me. Autan is good stuff I find.

Pack a daily (non drowsy) antihistamine and take one EVERY day whether you think you need it or not! Really helps if you do get bitten.

I'm not sure about Vitamin B, but it will do no harm as it's water soluble anyway.

Nighttime is the worst time for the blighters.

Be prepared, and have a lovely trip, sounds great.

There's only one thing that repels mossies adequately - DEET

Awful stuff, stinks too but 100% does what it's supposed to do

Simple precautions for night-time are worth taking too
If you're particularity affected by the bites, take a mossie net with you to cover the bed. Never leave bedroom doors and windows open at night.

I've tried everything over the years, the only thing that absolutely works 100% of the time is Jungle Formula with 50% Deet. Don't waste your time with anything else.

Many thanks for the thread. We're off to Umbria mid-September. Went a little earlier two years ago and got bitten to b**gery so taking absolutely no chances this time. Have to buy a smaller version of Jungle Formula though, the one I have is 150ml and we're travelling with hand luggage only.
