Options
I've got some pork steak out of the freezer but would like suggestions of what to do with it thats a bit different:confused: . I would usually treat it like pork chops.

Thanks

MUSTARD PORK ON CRUSHED POTATOES serves - WW points 5 1/2

    2tbsp sunflower oil
    4 x 150g pork steaks
    1 pork stock cube
    150ml cider -or apple juice
    1tbsp wholegrain mustard

heat the oil and seal the steaks until browned
pour in cider/juice, add mustard and stock cube - stir to dissolve
cook on hob for 30 mins on a low light, turning occasionally... the sauce will become sticky mmmm
Serve on 1lb new potatoes - boiled
melt 15g butter/marge in a frying pan, cruch the potatoes with the back of a fork and added to butter - cook, moving occasionally - you can let them get crispy if you prefer....and i add onions too sometimes

Brush with oil then roll in Paxo stuffing until coated. Wrap in foil and 'bake' in the oven. Serve with roasted vegetables - scrummy!
We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.

  • I sometimes chop them up and use them for sweet n sour pork, make some homemade egg fried rice as well. Alternatively I use pork steaks and chops to make a yummy herby dish, you can use any herbs you have, just chives would work well with the apple, I don't use sage in this recipe though as the taste can be too strong.

Four Herb & Pan Fried Apple Pork - Serves 2

1 Tbsp Fresh Parsley Finely Chopped
1 Tbsp Fresh Chives Finely Chopped
1 Tbsp Fresh Lemon Thyme Finely Chopped
2 Tbsp Fresh Lemon Verbena Finely Chopped
1 Medium Eating Apple Peeled, Cored and cut into chunky slices
    2 Pork Steaks
    Freshly Ground Black Pepper
    2 Tsps Olive Oil
2 Tsps Apple & Lemon Verbena Jelly (Use Apple Sauce if you don't have the jelly)

Method -Put the olive oil in a frying pan and add the chopped herbs, on top of this place the pork loins and put the apple chunks in the gaps in the pan. Season 1 side of the pork with the black pepper, after 3 minutes turn and season the other side.
Keep turning the pork steaks every few minutes until cooked. 5 minutes before the end of the cooking time put the apple & lemon verbena jelly into the pan and let it melt turning the meat each time to ‘glaze’ it. Serve with potatoes, veg & gravy of your choice.

How about this? I've made it several times when I fancy something a bit different, and it's really rather good (I haven't tried the apple salad yet, though, so I can't comment on that).

The only thing I would warn you about if you do decide to try it is to either put the topping on one side of the pork only if you grill it, or to do both sides and bake in the oven instead, or all the topping falls off when you turn the pork over! (I learned that one the first time I tried making this!:))
Back after a very long break!

How about (this is what I do)
Marinade in: Chinese Five Spice + a little oil, salt and pepper
Whack it on a high heat, it'll be just like Chinese BBQ pork - yums :)

    Hi Lyndach,

Sometimes I find pork steaks can be a bit dry. The way I get round this sometimes is to grill the chops until they are slightly underdone. While they're grilling mix some grated cheese, English mustard and a little double cream to make a thick paste. Put a small dollop of the paste on each chop and finish them off uncovered in the oven. Keep a close eye on them though as the cheese mix can burn easily.

Another way is to cook them in a casserole with sliced apples, onions, a stock cube and a glug of cider.

Last night I did pork steaks in the slow cooker...brown the steaks, add a chopped onion and enough stock to just about cover the bottom of the pan. Then add garlic, black pepper and a little English mustard powder made up water (how much will depend on how 'mustardy' you want the sauce to be). Leave to cook and about half an hour before serving stir in some cream. Thicken the sauce with cornflour if necessary.

There's an earlier thread with more ideas that may help:

    Pork steaks need using up

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.
