Yep, I noticed that- yet I had an email from them about 10 days ago saying that the prices had now been adjusted for items imported from ebay etc. Still the old prices though.
I never got that e-mail. I did an email about change to compensation but this said that the changes to parcels were still not available yet if importing parcels.0 -
Watch out. This company cheats.
Their new parcel tariff since August 2016 parcels up to 2 kilo, if that is in between 1 and 2 kilo and book it through the MyHermes website you might receive a surcharge saying that it is under declared and exceeds 1 kilo. Confused? Yes, not surprising.
They told us that when you book their service through Ebay or Amazon they still use the old tariffs of 0-1 kilo and 1- 2 kilo. Their employees cannot see which portal you have used to book your parcel. Crazy and they just try it on. we have recived a dozen surcharges over a period of two months.
Weights.
My Hermes tries to claim that your parcel weight is understated and slap on a heafty surcharge. Best to take a picture of your parcel on the scales before you send it. We have received several of these.
We have reported both complaints to Trading standards.0 -

They do use a volumatic weight as well - which I don't fully understand but I'm sure someone else will be along to explain properly later.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. RM and some others changed to a system of size categories - small, medium and large parcels - with different bands of weight to determine the cost.
Other carriers calculate each parcel individually with its dimensions used to determine a volumetric 'weight'. A formula such as length x weight x height/6000 is used with the dimensions in cm to give a 'weight' in kg. Either this weight or the actual weight is used to price the parcel - the higher figure being used.
A 60cm cube box with a weight of perhaps 10kg would have a volumetric weight of 60x60x60/6000 = 36kg. These carriers use the largest of the actual or volumetric weights to calculate the cost of sending. In addition they often have maximum size and weight limits that they will take.0 -

I'm going to do my 'grumpy warning' bit- but did you read any of the link at all when you posted it? Seeing nothing beyond the 'money off' headline and not bothering to read further is how people get conned out of money. This one is a very good example, follow the link in the t and cs you posted and you end up with this site which you need to join to get cashback "https://www.completesavings.co.uk/"
then look on the opening page of that site, the one you land on when you follow the link to the £15 off and it clearly states "You can join Complete Savings by paying the monthly membership fee, filling out the Join form which includes the Terms and Conditions and explains the benefits of the program. "
If that is not enough to make you realise you are paying for your discount then do a google search and the MSE thread is top of the search (after the paid for ads)
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3622877
use this cashback scheme if you wish, but be aware before you sign up that you are paying a monthly fee and people have reported difficulty in cancelling once they are past their free 30 day trial.
We have to stay safe online, whilst the site is not a scam and is clear that it is a paid for scheme it has still caught people out that have signed up blindly without bothering to read anything at all about what they are signing up for.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I hate being a sucker.
And I apologise for being grumpy. I just hate it when these companies don't actually do anything wrong, yet still manage to cost ordinary people a lot of money and time and effort. The fact that this particular 'scheme' comes up every time you buy stuff online, I've even seen it on Trainline and Amazon suggests it does Intend to deceive.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I don't use importing I just do the manual way. That way I know what I am entering etc.
With the Hermes Volume is this. You must also measure for volume as they won't take any parcel over a 256 cm volume. If they reject the parcel entirely you sometimes have to pay £30 just to get it back!
To work out the volume. You measure the 2 shortest sides (generally width and depth). Add them together. Then add the length. You parcel must be under 256cm.
It isn't a lot. I went to generate a label and I thought. I'll just measure it and it was 257cm volume. Had I placed that in Hermes i would been highly surcharged to get it back.
Also if you are close to any requirements on Hermes (IE weight or volume). Generally they will say its over and just surcharge you anyway. I tend to pay that bit extra and use another service. If that is the case as you can't trust what Hermes will say and you have no way of complaint either.0 -
Well they say size is everything and I am amazed that in spite of my raising this matter with Hermes 2 years ago they contibue to have the following advice on how to calculate volume..... Incredible!
This is how Hermes tell me I must find the volume of my parcel: The volume of this box below is 110,000 cubic cm… as any child cpould tell you... not 235!! as Hermes seem to think.
Am I missing something?

Maximum size and weight
We can’t accept really large parcels. By really large we mean anything that weighs over 15kg and is longer than 1.2m.
We also have a maximum allowed volume which cannot be greater than 245cm. To work out the volume, you need to add together the 2 shortest dimensions and multiply this by 2. Add the length and if the number you get is less than 245 then you’re good to go. Here’s a quick example:

;;;; HERE THEY HAVE A HELPFUL PICTURE OF A BOX ;;;;;
- Add together the 2 shortest sides: 40 + 50 = 90.
- Multiply this number by 2: 90 x 2 = 180.
- Add the longest length to this number: 180 + 55 = 235.
- 235 is less than 245 so this parcel is okay to send.
Really? Not L x B x H as we do in this universe.... I have personally told the CEO of this error..
Hey guys... ask me how I sucessfully sued the same company who claoimed my glass was not covered by thier insurance.... They are such fun..

They do not use a real volume calculation but a representation of it broken down into something understandable to the lowest denominator thicko UK consumer without the aid of a calculator, how many people can still not get their heads round RM sizing and weight.0
