Dealer mistake on oil change, would like an opinion

Exactly
I am of the same opinion
It's unfortunate but I don't think the dealer is responsible, if it happened the next day or within a few days that would be different.
Also the strange noise heard initially was almost certainly when the cap came off, popping the bonnet at that time would have prevented any consequential loss or damage
My thoughts exactly!'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.
I have opinions, you have opinions. All of our opinions are valid whether they are based on fact or feeling. Respect other peoples opinions, stop forcing your opinions on other people and the world will be a happier place.0 -
2.5 years old and I don't even know where the oil filler cap is!
You would fail your 'L' test today if you couldn't show the examiner around under the bonnet.0 -

Ive had to go back in and get someone out to check the oil level before, seems they must have filled it twice. Way way over the max mark. Good job they didnt road test it and that i checked it before driving away.
I dont think a motorway journey would have ended well with that much oil in the sump.
I brought out a cup of tea to someone who overfilled her oil. It was like a huge fire. Huge plume of smoke went up the street. She was visibly shaken, and that was before the RAC man told her that her engine was pretty much kaputt.0 -
When I passed my test I used to check the oil regularly, but my car still ground to a shuddering halt one day.
My Dad was beginning to get revved up to have a go at me when the mechanic who came to tow it checked the oil out of curiosity and discovered that according to the dipstick the oil was fine. Turns out there had been an emulsion build up just beyond the dipstick creating a pool of oil that made it appear fine.
So to all those saying check the dipstick, it doesn't always work.0 -
Maybe the OP would like to edit the thread title, don't think they want the majority of the opinions here.0

I'm very happy with the opinions aired, (keyboard warriors not applicable). It's exactly the reason I posted it and was honest about the situation from the beginning. The fact that most think I don't have a case is fair enough, I'm listening.
Regarding the engine noise change, when my wife mentioned it I had a good listen but really didn't hear anything distinctive that would make me look at the engine. At the time the car was parked on grass and not a road surface so that, I assumed wrongly, was the difference she was hearing.
Anyway, I'm off to the garage now, will update later.Pants0 -

Also, the questions don't include the oil filler cap.0 -
The dealership was Renault, the car was a Grand Scenic. They cleaned the engine, filled with oil and installed a new oil cap. There was no charge and whilst not admitting they made the mistake said that it was likely the problem was caused by the mechanic doing the service. I'm happy with that and will sort out the drive myself.
When I got the car home the wife said it sounded like a normal car now and not like a London taxi .Pants0
