shampain - how about looking at it the other way round. If I clean this up today I get the enjoyment of sitting on clean sofas, walking on clean floors, relaxing in the clean bathroom for a few days before hubby gets home!!
So where is your list of tasks that need to be done??0 -
Morning everyone,
just a few questions for all you professional OS'ers out there.
As many of you regulars will know i suffer badly from the dreaded depression and have been off work since 13th July. i take many inspiring ideas etc from these boards but due to my depression i dont seem to have the motivation for very much i cant manage to post on the daily very often and i would love to keep the house tidier and manage my finances better and i would love to make and stick to a menu plan but i simply can not find the motivation to even start.
so come on all you lovely peoples share your motivation secrets with me
thanks in advance

Hiya tooties
I find coming on MSE very motivational! Also I've started to post some lists on the flylady thread and that helps me focus on getting a few things done. I have a tendancy to expect too much of myself so I'm trying baby steps....such as cooking one batch of food a week, in the hope that I'll end up with a stocked freezer!
I'm sure experienced OS peeps will have loads of great ideas.
Good luck

Making a meal and sitting down and enjoying the effort what i have put in is enough motivation for me. Moreso when other people enjoy it as well.0

Although I don't do the whole flylady thing, I always use her "you can do anything for 15 minutes" theory.
So if it's a job I keep putting off then I plan to spend just a little time on it and see how much gets done.
As for meal plans, I hate standing there after work saying "what do you want for dinner?" and getting a "dunno" so that motivated me to plan my meals and now OH gets told what it isworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

sorry to hear that you suffer from depression, tooties.
My motivation comes from knowing that my children and grandchildren can arrive at any given moment. WHEN (not IF) my home is in a REAL mess those kids can make it ten times worse in as many minutes. I would much rather clear up a small mess than be overwhelmed by a HUGE MESS, :rotfl: . I just wish that I could get my OH to be as motivated as myself - he is a collector of collections!
On the FlyLady thread it encourages you to do 'babysteps' when dealing with your home problems - this is a great way because good small habits have a way of being contagious - it is true what she says about shining your sink. In no time at all, you are keeping the adjacent work surfaces clear and tidy as well. Then going on to recognise your 'hotspots' - mine appear to be tables! (the coffee table and dining table). A few minutes on each can make a world of difference. I also do the S&S (swish and swipe - even if it's only with a piece of dampened toilet paper!) in the bathroom every morning - usually while I'm gargling with mouthwash - kill two birds with one stone!
The other thing is to reward yourself throughout the day - cup of coffee, feet up, piece of favourite music playing (something uplifting if you find yourself getting depressed). Also helps to open the windows quite wide while your doing a bit of housework (what a horrible word! - no wonder we don't like doing it!!) - fresh air is a GREAT lift for depression.
Good Luck, tooties0 -
try looking at the "5 OS pleasures " thread on this forum. I find going for a walk in a green place makes me feel better and listening to upbeat music. Hope this helps (((((hugs ))))) to you, and all who suffer with depression.earn what you can, save what you can, give what you can :hello:0

I can't say I'm a pro OSer, I'm a newbie, but I'll give you my 2p worth anyway
I live with my parents and sister (darn house prices!), and to be honest, our biggest thing was food/cooking. I found I was getting sick of processed 'whack it in the oven' food - we all work full time, and that's all anyone could be bothered to do, or I'd buy a takeaway (I have an unbridled passion for chinese food) which cost £30 a time for the 4 of us.
I think I had a bash at one of the recipies I'd found in one of our cook books, and to my suprise, it was scrummy...I cooked a couple of nights, and found I quite enjoyed it - not all OS food takes forever to prepare and cook. In the end, my mum gladly delegated dinners to meNow I tell them what we need in the shopping, and I prepare dinner for everyone - unless I'm out/away - or like this week, ill. My nickname round the house is chefie (:D ). What motivates me is the praise I get lol - yup, I really am that shallow! Everyone says how nice dinner was, and how much they enjoyed it. That keeps me going when my eyes are pouring cutting the upteeth onion
