m-i-l asked DH last night if it was ok for her to bring things to make a vegan cheesecake while they are here. DS1 has already asked me to make him a cheesecake for his birthday on Monday. What a coincidence!! I will continue with mine, and she can do what she wants.
Let's face it with 8 of us, one cheesecake will do one sitting, I will not make an enormous one.
I am not getting involved in competitive cheesecaking.
She is only going to sulk when it is not perfect, and it all goes in one sitting.
Cue: Drama and Tantrums....

Right, last day of school here today. One dressed as an Egyptian, two to football practice, me to be cleaning EVERYTHING not nailed down, and some nailed down stuff too.

Two spin closures put on airing cupboard doors.

Bathroom door sanded so it does not need a hard pull shut. Screws tightened, and if one more child swings on it, I will be cross!!.

Towels all lined up and very precise. Looking very good and most professional.

All top floor bedrooms to be tidied tonight and hoovered once the kids tidy them up.

Coat hooks arrived before 10.30, I was at the top of the stairs when I heard what I thought was one of the top floor blinds shaking in the wind (windows open on top floor to air it) when I saw the letterbox shaking at the bottom of the stairs. Bloddy delivery driver was trying to force the parcel through the letterbox, it would not go, so he left 90% hanging out in the street! He never knocked or even tried to ring the bell. I opened the door to see him running down the road like the very devil was after him and he jumped in his van and sped off. Not acceptable.

DH announced this morning his mum has more stuff being delivered.

Step Gran rang to tell me only 5 of the ordered books have arrived and wants to know when the others will arrive - so I am on the case... she is developing an Amaz0n by proxy habit.

I have nearly beat the back room into submission. Just by moving a bookshelf, I think I may have solved a huge problem. Got everything off the floor. Put all the extra books away, and cleared the space in the middle of the room. Which is amazing. Plus repurposing a bit of furniture without having to take it to the tip. Yay!

The kids are going to be annoyed, but hey! c'est la vie. They will just have to learn not every room is set up to be a gamers cave. They need to be multipurpose spaces.

Already have 2 after school club demands -which will take me up to Xmas holidays. This is a 9 week term up til Xmas. It is going to feel very, very long.

The back room is now a back room! One table piled high with random stuff which needs to be collected by its owners, and other printer paper and envelopes and other assorted office stuff to be put in drawers.

So just a hoover around and then it is only the kitchen to sort out.

2 kids to ping pong

1 trip to dump with naked mattress springs, wobble legged desk, random assorted bits of wood, and the last rubble from the chimney opening funtimes.

This is the first time I have not just been throwing stuff into plastic storage boxes and hiding them. Things are finally finding a home.

DH is having kittens about the high winds and the roof. There is nothing going on with the roof, but he is panicking anyway, because that is what he does. Funny when it was him that did not want to get it done over summer.
Oh well, there will be another summer next year, just stay where you are right now ok roof? I will sort you out soon. When I can get all 'the scaffold jobs' done at the same time.

Does it ever stop? Do you ever get to the point where you go, okay, it is done, yay! or does it turn into - all main jobs done, now redecorating, or annual painting of outside walls, or garden finishing, and improving, and maybe a new.......
Who am I kidding with all this talk of finishing? - it will just be time to move elsewhere.

DH has decided he wants to go out for lunch before the in-laws get here, and he is saying( in front of the kids) he wants to go out of a nice meal before going out with them for a stressful meal. He needs to remember they will repeat everything he says back to them. Mind you, he doesn't really care. Then again he can run away to work.

So, the house is looking pretty housey, and we have been informed they will get to us quite late in the evening on Sunday, which is code for they are stopping off with her brother's family along the way and do not want to admit it.

I dunno.

They rarely even speak to me if I answer the phone - now they ring when they know DH is home, and I have programmed the ring tone on the landline phone to a 'special' one just for them anyway.

I am not going to plan an evening meal for them on Sunday, if they may not even turn up here now. They usually rock up around 4.30, if they have decided to go elsewhere first, and they know we eat beween 5 & 6, then they have decided not to join us. I am not going to spend my time trying to second guess what they may or may not decide to do on the day.

It is all mind games with them anyway, we are coming/ we might not be coming / we are coming on this day / we have changed the ticket / we will be there in the afternoon / late on Sunday evening.
If knowledge is power, not caring feels even more powerful, and a lot less ridiculous. Bunch of muppets!

Two blinds arrived, still need to be put up.

DH keeps laughing because someone has glued googly eyes on a monument in Savannah, Georgia - have a google I think it adds a certain je ne sais quoi

It might have been a fluke, wouldn't like to chance my luck on a second time, besides, i need to work some magic in the kitchen (and use the mop- the floor is bleugh!!)
